Colorado's winter play ground has officially opened!! Last weekend, the San Juan Mtns got a couple feet of snow, Wolf Creek Ski area is now operating and our central mtns west of Denver got 6 to 8" of powder. All good, and about a week earlier than last year.

It's a calm sunny day with low 50s at trailhead and 40s up high, so we'll see if Webster Pass gate's open.

Yea - Let's go snow wheeling!!
Bronco made our progress sooo easy, aired down to 20psi, tranny in 4L with rear locker on most of the day - NO slipping nor slidding - Luv Bronco's great control!!

Here's the Snake River's headwaters - Easy-Peasy today.

And the trail steepens - Great traction though.

There's lots of high quality water and tons of Alpine Willows in the stream bottom here, so Beaver are very active in this basin.

As we climb above 11,800ft, say good-bye to the conifer trees

Into the upper basin above tree line.

After the snow, we had couple clear days, but very windy weather. Wind drifted snow is what typically blocks these high mtn trails. Here's what that looked like today. Sure, we could dig out this drift, but there's a lot more ahead.

Since we didn't want to spend the afternoon digging snow- We'll enjoy down tripping this trail. It is a beautiful basin - One of our favs!!

More Beaver ponds.

And fording the Snake River again.

There's lots of sun remaining, time for another adventure!

The west side of Argentine Pass is on top of that ridge in the left background here. The trail up to Argentine Pass from here is VERY narrow and only available for hikers and horseback. We were just wheeling up Argentine from the eastside last month.

Here's the view looking west & down from Argentine Pass at 13,233ft into Peru Creek basin.

So who said, all good things must come to an end.

Well, not really - it's FUN coming out too!
