Last Wednesday I caught a flight to Chicago and met up with @Deano Bronc for a camping trip to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. After a short night of sleep we were up and on the road from Indiana to Michigan where we met up with @SlashRacer and his son Wyatt. Let the good times roll!
Our first stop on the way north was at the Silver Lakes Dunes. It was clear and sunny and there were almost no other vehicles out that morning. It was a good thing for one gentleman that we stopped by, because he may have been stuck for a very long time. As soon as we got out on the dunes, there he was waving hello to us.

What a blast! I got a taste of dune riding in Moab and can see why everyone loves it so much. I’m glad you fellas had a good time and that the weather cooperated.
Chris here. I drive a 2-door Velocity Blue 2023 Ford Bronco Badlands with Sasquatch, Lux, a 2.7L V6, and an automatic transmission. It’s fun.

After the dunes we were off continuing north with some beautiful shots of the changing of the colors and the crossing of the Mighty Mac.

As the sun was setting we were inching ever closer to finding a camping spot for the night. We arrived at one potential spot next to the beach and quickly skipped camp set up and we out on a Yooperlite hunt. Amazing how the moon can look like the sun!

After another drive we found an excellent campsite at the beach in Newberry. It was very late when we arrived and we got set up and hit the sack. This was our basecamp for the trip and we’re lucky enough to have a primo spot!

Here's camp! We were very glad that we came in on Thursday night because the "First come, first serve" camping spots were very limited on Friday and by Friday night, they were all gone. We found these spot about 11pm on Thursday night. I just bought the North Face tent so putting it up the first time in the dark was interesting to say the least. It didn't fall down with all the wind so I get Tim and I did alright. First time camping in about 25 years!

Good times!

After an excellent breakfast, prepared by Mike @SlashRacer, we were off and running for a day of adventure. After a beautiful drive through McMillan Township, we stopped at Tahquamenon Falls, the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum and the Vermillion Point Nature Preserve. We then headed back to camp for dinner.View attachment IMG_0322.jpeg

Sunday was a day for traveling back home, but not before a few stops along the way. Palms Book State Park was spectacular. I have never seen water so clear. And the fish were huge. Dean and I parted ways with Mike and Wyatt and headed west and south through Wisconsin and into Chicago. Thanks again to Mike and Dean for the invite and an awesome weekend camping!

Here is the campgrounds we stayed at if you want to primitive camp. https://www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails/Details.aspx?id=677&type=SFCG
It's right on the lake and very wooded. It also has a couple of outhouses which is always a plus!
