Boreas Pass at 11,482ft is Summit County, CO’s 1st off-road pass trail to open this year. It’s an easy trail for Bronco, originally a railway into Colorado’s central mining districts. Here's our June 15th report for this just under 2hr, and 14 1/2 mile off-road trail from Como to Breckenridge, CO.

Here’s overlook into South Park.
Clear trail with no obstacles and only a few snow piles.

Boreas Pass at 11,482ft was a very difficult railway for the old-timers to keep open.

But lovely trail on our mid June adventure today.

The west side of Boreas Pass trail drops into Breckenridge, CO. Just south, and on the left is another >14K ft mtn - Quandary Peak.

Cheers

Yeah, Boreas Pass is very easy, more of a dirt road trail. We were happy to see this county trail open, as all other Summit County pass trails (Webster, Deer Creek, St Johns, Peru Creek, etc) remain closed. We really didn't need 4 wheel drive, but I did go with 4A that help on couple loose gravel sections. Also, aired down to 23-24 psi to greatly improve the ride and vibration on the wash board surfaces.

Rollins Pass is another popular old railway pass trail. It's 50 - 60 miles north of Boreas in the beautiful Indian Peaks & James Peak mountains. It's access near Moffit Tunnel's East Portal has couple miles of dirt road, then more typical full width off-road trail. High clearance 4x4s will be successful on Rollins.

Rolins is a fav here as it's more interesting trail with great views and gets ya up to Lake Jenny. Forest Service has closed the trail short of the actual pass. Also, the Jenny spur trail's closed, so a quarter mile hike to Jenny's totally recommended. Here some Sept- 23 pics of the Rollins Pass trail.

How BORING!! Have to ride up into the mountains and look out over the same type of views, crystal clear lakes, old mines loaded with history, views that go on for miles, old R&R stations, God's country. Will you adopt me....PLEASE! I'll wash your Bronco....please! Great pics, what a way to spend Fathers Day!!

Happy Fathers Day to all!!

Thank you - Chicagoland's God's country too!

Here's a Coach John Madden quote from a 1990 Sports Illustrated profile:

"What I’ve learned traveling around is this: People are nice. You go to a big city, and you hear the world is going to hell, but it’s not true. Small parts of it are; the whole isn’t. Hey, all we have to do is spread out a little bit, because we have a lot of space. You get out there, and it makes you feel better about America. The thing works."
