We took Buck out Mt Harrison to look for a B24 crash site from 1945. After finding the dog tag at the Summit 38 site ( see my prior post), we learned about another nearby crash. We've not spent a lot of time around this area but realize we should... Cool places to explore abound.
There is an old fire lookout on top of Mt Harrison, and a plaque explaining the crash below is nearby. Horse Thief Pond, about 1,500 feet below still has some debris from the old bomber. There are no trails. It was a rough hike down the west ridge. Lots of rock screes, sage, berry bushes, etc. The pond was mostly dry but we did find some of the debris. We then scurried up the opposite side of the crescent shaped bowl. My wife was hurting, and it was very steep and rocky. We also didn't have much water with us.
Up top, just before we got to the top, I found an arrowhead. Pretty cool day. Now I'm back home icing my knees!
