Hope this is the right forum for this. I bought this handheld for wheeling, but if there's a better forum for this I'll move it there.

After using it for 6 months, all of sudden it wouldn't transmit to other radios in the group. I keep it pretty basic in it's settings, all the codes are off. I tried it with some older basic Motorolas I have, which can communicate with each other just fine. No go. I received a new one today, body only. Same thing. Codes are off. I'm at a loss here, am I doing something wrong I'm just ignorant of?

Thx
Laura

I use a pair of the GM-15 Pro radios and they work great. Did you try their online support or customer service # to help troubleshoot and resolve your issue?

Maybe your codes need to be on if the other radios in the group are using CTSS.

Yes, it wasn't that helpful on troubleshooting. The vendor did send me a new radio body, no battery or antenna. It's doing the exact same thing. I think it's the antenna.

It won't xmit to a friends FRS radio or some older Motorolas I have. The Motorolas I have work just fine. None of these older radios have coding ability. None of the codes on either of my Baofengs are enabled. My original one worked for 6mos then stopped working. I basically just turned it on and started talking.

If the mods see this thread, can you please move it to the comms forum. This isn't the correct forum. THX

My radios came with 2 antennas and I use the longer 14” high gain. Which antenna are you using?

It only came with one, and it's about 8" or 9".

Baofeng have a ton of configuration options. Are you sure you don't have a configuration set that is causing this? I.e. do you have CTCSS tones enabled or DCS code's enabled? Have you reset to factory settings (Menu 41)?

Hello Mike

To the best of my knowledge they are not enabled, and yes, I did do a factory reset. I checked my old 15 against the new 15 they sent me, exact same set up. No xmit on either. I have never messed around with any of the coding, I'm not learned enough. I , literally, just un-boxed it and started talking, it worked for about 6mos, then kaput.

I'll check out that forum, thx.

Where did you purchase it? Some organizations pretend to be sellers of Baofeng, and they put stickers and stuff on them, but what's inside isn't what should be there.

I purchased off Amazon, the vendor is Abbree. I contacted Baofeng directly and they pointed me to Abbree as a legit vendor and I should deal with them. They have tried to help, but it is slow and tedious. In fact I have to again send them video of how I'm operating the new radio they sent. Trying to get a new antenna from them. If that falls through, I'll probably just buy an after market one.

That's a Chinese Distributor. You likely would be better off with an American Distributor like Comm Gear Supply. Sorry you are having these problems. At least these radios are dirt cheap compared to commercial radios or even some of the US companies consumer radios.

Well, it turns out I was ignorant of things, and have learn a new thing. The Old Motorola T5800's do have rudimentry codes and they were set, I'm thinking my friend's radio had something set too. Anyway, I set the M's to no code, and my Baofeng can now xmit to them. Asked Abbree if they want the 2nd radion sent back, we'll see.

Sounds like you are figuring it out. They are fairly complex and how they come in the box can vary. so you almost have to do a deep dive into the settings of Baofeng's
