Hello all, any recommendations on trails within a couple hundred miles of Houston,TX?

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. If you ever need a fishing guide in Galveston,TX let me know….I live on the island most weekends, happy to show fellow Bronco friends to some great spots.

Unfortunately, there are not many options for off roading in Texas outside of Big Bend National Park. Hidden Fallas near Austin and Barnwell near Longview are the only two that come to mind that are not on the other side of the state. I would avoid Barnwell. I have never been to Hidden Falls, but their website looks promising.

I usually head into Oklahoma and Arkansas. But I am considerable closer to them than you are.

Wow, in a state that big? Bummer! Makes me reconsider New England in a different light.
Arkansas I can understand, has the Ozarks, but I'm surprised that you recommend Oklahoma. Good to know! Someday I want to drive the Oklahoma panhandle, "just because it's there."

It's a huge state of private land and prison land 😁

There used to be multiple private off roading parks in the San Antonio area, but when I went in August, I could not find one that was still in operation.

I've never been in the panhandle. I cannot imagine there is actually anything there! Eastern OK has beautiful forested and mountainous land. Multiple off roading opportunities around Beavers Bend State Park and further north along the OK/AR border.

Big bend is probably one of the few sites in TX for public off roading. There is the Texas overlanding trail but that is mostly unpaved county roads. For pay to play places there is Hidden Falls that is pretty good. Merus adventure park is Amazing, Katemcy rocks is fun but technical, and Wolfs Caves is even more technical. There is Escondido draw that is on my list to check out. And there are a few state parks mentioned above.

All the good riding places in Texas are in the west. I live in Texarkana, so I am looking at a minimum of a 6 hour drive for even the closest off roading park.

@TexasTea44 if you are still following this, sorry. You are looking at a drive far from Houston.

yep gotta love Texas. 6 hour drive one way is a day trip. LOL😂
I think there is one place over in the Houston area can’t remember the name and Hidden Falls would be about 3-3.5 hours depending on what part of Houston. Katemcy and Wolf Caves are just about 45 minutes further.
And Merus is in Amarillo, the best wheeling I have done in this state.
