Looking for a Camper

I'm looking into getting a camper for the wife and I to pull behind the Bronco. Thinking about a tear drop but now we are thinking maybe a little bigger with a few more amenities.

My question for the group is if anyone has pulled small trailers behind their Broncos and how did it pull a 16' 2k lb trailer? That's about the size we are thinking about.

You're in luck! While I haven't towed a trailer with my Bronco, three members who have come to mind: @jparker, @TK1215, and @Jakob1972. Perhaps one of these gentlemen can answer some of your questions... 😉

I'm a fan of the teardrop variety, but I'm now settling on acquiring a tent and a couple of cots. Best of luck!
Chris here. I drive a 2-door Velocity Blue 2023 Ford Bronco Badlands with Sasquatch, Lux, a 2.7L V6, and an automatic transmission. It’s fun.

My wife and I just did our maiden voyage with our NuCamp Tab 320 Boondock to King of the Hammers. Our Badlands with Sasquatch pulled it like a champ. It is a medium sized teardrop. Comes pretty loaded out, including a wet bath. I think all loaded up we are just under 3000 lbs. We will be bringing it along up to Moab in April. It does have electric brakes and I had to install a RedArc elite controller purchased at a local Ford dealership. Super easy to install

The little 2.3l pulls my home built with no issues don’t even notice it back there most of the time. We have the shower awning and I am building a 270 batwing awning for the other side. We use the shower awning for our porta potty when not using it for a shower or dressing area. The problem with teardrops is room to stand but once you get used to doing things outside it is not bad. We will test the Air-conditioning when we take the rig to Merus this May. I added a roof top solar water heater so we will have nice showers when we want them. I would say it is way better than a tent but not as nice as our 26’ bumper pull but at 6600lbs the Bronco ain’t pulling that.

Another question for the Group. Since the Bronco has no Tow mode what mode does everyone tow in? I was towing in Sport mode since the shift points are higher and torque converter seems more locked than other modes. it really seemed to help going through the Mountains going up to Chisos Basin, Big Bend.

I've pulled a pop up, a little lighter and obviously much shorter. Plenty of power, but fuel mileage is horrendous. My next camper setup will be the Bronco on the back of my medium duty IH pulling a larger travel trailer, I expect to get about the same mileage lol.

Just some standys you can consider.
this one will get you right to the top of your tow range but it has a dry bath. or this just to get you started down the rabbit hole.

What I like about the campinawe, it comes with a battery powered air conditioner and a sky gazer window and screen.17ad4a_50306a7d8f1d4e688f2b8862cb4efd0c~mv2.jpg

I agree there's no "Tow mode" on the GOAT dial, but if you go into the infotainment system and search through settings, you'll see something in there. Can't remember what exactly it adjusts.

I believe that what you're referring to is the flat tow mode for the Bronco. Not what the OP was looking for. When I towed a small trailer, I did it in Sport mode but turned off 4A. Worked pretty well even over the really large mountain I had to cross.

I tow with my Badlands with Sasquatch. I installed a RedArc Tow Pro Elite that I picked from the dealership. Easy install. I just plug the trailer in and it has a pop up on the screen that deactivates the blind spot and a couple of other things. I just use normal mode in either 2A or 4A. Pulls like a champ and zero shift point issues. The sway control is excellent.

Good to know, your camper is probably bigger than what I'm considering so I should be good. I'm going back and forth between minimal teardrop style and one I can stand up in with a little room to move around and change clothes in. Decisions, decisions.

Good luck with this adventure. I too have been looking for a off road camper and I have found that most of them cost more than the Bronco.

I'm finding options under $20k with teardrops close to $10k.

You can find some good less expensive options for teardrops, but they may not be as capable. I do not plan on dragging my teardrop through the Rubicon. I am planning to park at a camp site with water and electricity near the places I want to wheel. I just need something that will make it down the road at the house and look good-ish behind the Bronco. So to save a few bucks I built it, the teardrop mine is modeled after is about $40k I think I have about $3k in mine. If you can use a table saw, jigsaw, and drill you can build one.

Not too sure when you will be using your trailer but having a teardrop and changing clothes when it is cold is brisk to say the least, you may not need coffee to wake up. So a standy might be better. If you plan on warm weather camping the teardrop is great.

I've done many of my Bronco mods myself but I'm not confident in my abilities to make my own. Great looking setup you have, both the rare Everglades color and matching the rig to it. But you have me thinking now. Thanks.

Hey Tim, we've been looking to do the same. I was hoping to get it for SCE, but decided not for a first time run. The Forest River No Bo 16.1 is nice.14.4 long, setup for off-road, and has bed, kitchen, and dry bath. They are running about 20k. Very easy for the Bronco to tow. I really like the size.
