It’s here!

May 24, 2024

It is time that I buy a new vehicle and the Bronco Heritage caught my eye. On Wednesday this week I visited my local dealer and signed on with a $2500 deposit for a 2024 Cactus Grey Heritage (only option - tow package) with a 2.3 and a manual transmission. I did the paperwork for the financing and by the time I drove home there was a message that the financing was approved and they would place the order that afternoon. Cool.

Oh, did I mention that the dealer insisted the deposit was “non-refundable” once the order was in because they didn’t want to get stuck with a Bronco that they couldn’t sell. Apparently, there are storage lots full of manual transmission Broncos…….yeah, right.

Two hours later, it all change. The dealer tells me that Ford has place a “stop order” on all Heritage models for 2024 effective days ago. No more orders until 2025. They suggested I to wait until September to place the order and then wait the 8 months for delivery. Or, they could find me a non-Heritage with the same equipment (they added that they could wrap the roof, wheels, grill and dash to make it look like a Heritage).

So, I chose to look at what they could find with the same specs (minus the wrap it in plastic idea). They came up with a Badlands but no surprise, the bottom line came in at $16k more than my original order!! Nope, not going there.

The way I look at it, they defaulted on the sale, so I requested my deposit back as I don’t want them earning interest on my money for the next four months.

Any Ford dealer that really wants to make a sale right now would be bending over backwards to try to locate and bring one in for you. Sounds like this dealer only wants to get rid of their current inventory instead of getting you what you want. I'd say get your deposit back, and work with another dealer that really want's to help.

Order banks for the HE have been closed since December...

The orders have been closed since December? You would think a dealer would know that!!

The Badlands they found was almost 120 miles away, so they are looking! The issue is the pricing structure. Things included with the HE add more than $12k to other models in Canada.

Auto trader nationwide search shows two 4-dr gray Heritage manuals. I didn't check availability.

Build and price still let's you build a Heritage. It's been in the past that if Ford pauses production on a trim, the build and price notes as such and doesn't let you build the trim.

I'd check another dealer.

I had my dealership put in an order for a HE Limited in Peak Blue a couple of weeks ago. Apparently it wasn’t an issue. How long it will take? Who knows

I have now contacted two other dealers. Same story: no HE available in Canada (2 dr, 2.3, manual) anywhere. Both also said that an HE could not be ordered until the 2025 models open up in the ”Fall”. They did have an HE Limited for $115,000 out the door (with a 2.7 and auto)!

Interestingly, the dealer called this afternoon and said that they will get back to me later this weekend with a revised price on the Badlands/Squatch that will bring it close to the price of the HE. Hmmmm. I have my doubts given an almost $16k price difference!

Obviously, more to come.

It has been a busy weekend. Sorry for the long pause.

They totally surprised me on Saturday by coming back with a revised costing on the Badlands. It was still more than the HE, however it was a substantive drop in price - like five figures.

At this point, I think I will take their offer. I will be going back to the dealer on Monday to sign off on everything. I am still hopeful they won’t pull another swerve. Time will tell.

Nice! Love my Badlands! I am sure you'll be more than happy with it IF the deal works out. Good luck!

Well, the deal is done! The price ended up at a smoking deal and the Bronco is now being transferred up from a dealer 140 km away. It will have to spend some time with an installer for the Ford trailer kit to be installed (the dealer subs that work out to another of his businesses).

I should be taking delivery by Friday! I will post photos when I pick it up.

Well, I got a call late yesterday from the dealer…….nope, you can’t pick it up on Friday.

It seems that the Bronco is on the lot now from the other dealer, but they didn’t order the tow package soon enough. That won’t arrive until Friday afternoon. Delivery is now pushed back to Monday.

On the other hand, the Rally Armor mud flaps and IAG side steps were delivered yesterday. Nothing like buying accessories for a vehicle you don’t own.

Today is Monday and another message from the dealer. This time, the hitch receiver arrived for installation, however the wiring kit and module is missing in action. (Maybe they ordered the wrong part number(s)?). They weren’t really clear on when the parts may make an appearance.

Unfortunately, due to my life‘s crazy schedule, I won’t be around to take delivery for another couple of weeks now. I have opted to still pick It up today and return once the parts arrive for the installation.

Buying a new vehicle should not be this difficult. It hasn’t been on the other dozen or so new vehicle I have purchased over the last four decades!

I am still hoping to get the Bronco today.

Sorry, no photos forthcoming.

I got another call from the dealer after we agreed that I would pick up the incomplete vehicle today. This time the message was that it is now June! If I wanted to pick up the Bronco today it was going to be $4000 more!!! Woooohoooo!

It seems that no one in the dealership realized that the day after May 31st is June 1st and on June 1st the Ford incentives all end. So because of that, I had two options: 1) pay an additional $4000 to take delivery today, or 2) pick it up after June 7th when the ”new” incentive program starts and we are back to the price we have agreed upon (They think.)

Incompetence or extortion? Maybe a bit of both? Hmmmmm. It also makes me think that they may have another buyer and they want to ”free up” this one for sale.

Anyway, being the optimist I am I have pushed back delivery to June 7th and hope by then the trailer package will actually be installed. I also suggested that the salesperson find some incentive to placate me as no matter how good the Bronco is, the experience has been sour thus far.

I don't recall seeing rebates iao $4k on any 2024 trim levels, let alone a Heritage. I know there are dealer discounts out there, but no mfg rebates more than $1500-2500 for 2024's. Maybe the service dept had it ripped apart b4 they realized they "ordered" the wrong part, and don't want to waste the tech hours putting it back together.
