Any one else have their dealer ask them for a pic of license to prove to Ford that they were an actual order and not just dealer stock shenanigans?

haven't heard that one... I think any car dealer needs proof of a license and insurance before you drive off of the lot.

I call pony :poop:

You can’t make this stuff up but, apparently they are.

Someone should start a “my dealer said…” compilation.

My first dealer didn't, my second dealer did. I trust the second dealer 1000x more than the first one lol.

My salesman asked me to present my driver's license when I placed the order for my Bronco at the dealership. The salesman implied it was necessary, but it's anyone's guess as to whether it's true. At some point, you have to trust the powers that be and hope it's part of the deal process. My DL doesn't contain my SSN, just my address, height and weight. The only "sensitive" proprietary information contained therein is my DL number, which is specific to me.

It's to run a credit report.

Yes, My dealer asked to copy my license. Apparently some dealers were cat fishing Ford to get stock Bronco's on order and claiming they were real customers.

It's not to run a credit check. They need your approval and SS# for that. Ford just needs to make sure the dealer has a real customer.

That’s what I was told as well. It doesn’t necessarily make me feel like I’m getting any closer to getting behind the wheel of my own Bronco, but if that’s what it takes to get the process rolling, I’m fine with it.

It is part of the COVP customer verification process for retail orders. It's to stop dealers from making fake orders, and its a good thing your dealer is asking for it. Did it for my bronco and recently for my '22 superduty.

They have to have a percentage of name match between orders and customers. That is what they are trying to verify. Since most places took SSNs off drivers licenses, its harder (though not impossible) for the "we need a copy of your DL before you test drive this car but we really run your credit report" to work

Dealers need to complete a retail order verification process on all orders to the factory, Bronco, Lincoln or otherwise. They wont even think about converting the order until you have a drivers license, proof of deposit and signed order sheet. This is to prevent dealers from placing retail orders for customers that don't exist and getting allocation they don't deserve. I'm at a CA dealership so rules might be different across the nation.

Yes, I was asked to provide this info, the reason was as stated above. Many Ford dealerships were apparently creating fake orders then getting the Broncos, cancelling the orders then reselling the Broncos at a markup. The Driver's license info provided was to prove I was a real person.

Haven't heard that before but considering the shady ass crap dealers are pulling I wouldn't doubt it. Can't wait for dealers to go the way of the dodo

I have no idea why they're even involved. It irks me every time I think that the random dude who has provided ZERO assistance in this process is going to get a commission or bonus for my truck. That money should be used to give me swag!!!! I did all the work!

Yea they did jack shit except some paperwork. If the laws change and manufactures are able to directly sell to us than dealers will go by by.

Yes it’s true and it sucks that so many dealers are dishonest. Was talking to my fleet salesman and he’s told me on commercial orders they have to have a P.O. From larger companies or DL from or some form of guarantee from the purchaser.

My dealership said they have to have a copy of an ID and email address to upload orders to Ford now to prevent dealerships from putting in fake orders.
