Keep Your Bronco Exterior Looking Fresh with a Touch-Up Paint Pen

From flying rocks to rolling shopping carts, those small chips, nicks and scratches on our Ford Bronco are inevitable. Whether it happened while cruising down the highway, after opening the door too fast and accidentally hitting something, or when you were nowhere near your Bronco and it was parked outside a store… it’s always a bummer when you see those dings. Luckily, there is a tool to help you touch up those small, unwanted spots: Ford/Motorcraft® Touch-up Paint Pens.

I noticed quite a few people asking about touch-up paint in the Bronco Nation forum, so thought I would pass on some details to the community. Hopefully the info below will help you quickly and easily find what you need to get the touch-up pen that matches your exterior paint.

What are the Touch-Up Pens?

This is just a sampling of Bronco exterior color touch-up pens.

The Ford/Motorcraft touch-up pen features a brush on one side and a pen style tip on the other to help get things covered and fixed the easiest way possible. The size of the damaged area will help you determine which end to use (pen tip for smaller chips, nicks and scratches; brush side for slightly larger areas). It’s a good combo to help with a variety of smaller touch-up needs. The pens are each coded to pair with a specific shade in the Ford Bronco, Sport, or Raptor exterior color palette. While there may be other options out there, “Motorcraft Parts are the only parts designed and built to the specific standards of Ford Motor Company and are the only parts recommended for use in your Ford or Lincoln vehicle.”

Where Do I Find My Paint Code?

Having the correct paint code for your VIN is essential so you order the correct color touch-up pen. There are many shades of blue, green, red, etc. available, so you want to make sure you have the code that is the perfect match for your ride, as that paint code is tied to the part number used to order your touch-up pen. There are a few ways to find the correct paint code for your vehicle, you can:

  • Find the paint code for your vehicle’s exterior on the sticker on your driver’s side door jamb. The exterior paint code will be labeled as EXT PNT followed by two characters. The “JS” circled below is the color code for Iconic Silver.
  • Stop by or give the parts/service department at your dealer a call. Provide them with the last eight digits of your VIN and they can look up the info for your specific Bronco.

  • Enter your VIN into http://www.fordparts.com and search paint.

I’ve included an at-a-glance chart at the bottom of this article with some paint codes and part numbers for colors used on the 2021–2025 Bronco, Sport, and Raptor. That should help get you started, though I’d definitely still double check with your VIN just to be sure before you order.

How Do I Order A Touch-Up Pen?

You can order one online or get it through your dealer. Before you order online, you might want to give your dealer a call to see if they have the touch-up pen for your VIN in stock. If you’re in luck and they have it available, you can avoid an online order and stop by the dealer and pick it up. There is obviously no guarantee that they will have your particular color, but it’s definitely worth a call. And if they don’t have it, they can order it for you.

If you prefer to order online, visit the Ford Parts website and enter the touch-up paint part number for your vehicle. Remember to make sure to verify the paint code and part number for your vehicle before starting this process to ensure you order the correct color. To do this:

  • Access the FCSD Chemicals and Lubricants Quick Reference Charts.
  • Scroll down until you see the TOUCH-UP PAINT heading.
  • Select and download the "Motorcraft® Lacquer Touch-up Paints Cross-Reference Chart."
  • Once downloaded, open the PDF document and search by your two-digit paint code for the color name and Motorcraft service part number.

When you’re ready to order your touch-up paint pen on the Ford Parts website, select Keyword/Part# and enter the touch-up paint part number.

Select Search Catalog and select a dealer to view prices and availability. Choose your touch-up paint pen, place your order, and once available... your paint pen(s) will be delivered to your selected dealer for pick up.

Hopefully your exterior stays amazing and you never need to reach for a touch-up paint pen.  But if you do, maybe having this info all in one place will help the process be quick and painless!
