Since I am currently living in a no-snow situation, I reached out to our very own Bronco Nation member Bluebaru, who recently took his rig out for a multi-day winter wheeling adventure in West Virginia. From his forum name, you can tell that he is lately from the Subaru world and compares his experiences in those vehicles with his Bronco Sport.
“I did most of my snow wheeling on this trip in Normal Mode, with 4WD engaged but not the rear locker and my Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/Ts, aired down to 25psi.”
We certainly look forward to hearing about more of Bluebaru’s adventures in the Bronco forums and some of yours. Post your winter wheeling Bronco Sport photos and share your experiences of driving your Sport in the snow.
“My brother, in pic, seemed to be more focused on taking pictures than guiding me all the way through this washout and I overreacted to a hole on my left, at the uphill exit and cut right to soon, hanging my right rear tire in a drop-off that ended up dragging the whole right side down. After two or three tries and some better communication, I was able to cut my wheels to the left and back up enough that I was able to get up through the proper line. My Subaru friends all got through this, on the first try, having gone through the proper line, though they all had trouble in more than one other spot, whereas I had none. They were all impressed at me getting out of the hole without any traction aids or a tow rope.”
“Mind you this was my first snow wheeling in the Bronco Sport, and it's been 3+ years since I last got to drive one of my Subies in the snow. But on day three, with a little more ice than snow versus the previous two days, where I followed the others who were definitely going slower than I would have, I noticed the front end pushing out on some turns and the rear end moving out a little on some of the twisties.”
“I have a set of 16" Method Bead Grip wheels and Nokian Outpost nATs waiting for me at Discount Tire that I'm looking forward to getting on later this week and look forward to doing some snow wheeling with them ASAP.”
