When the good weather hits, the doors come off. But what if you put them back on and they start making a ratcheting, clicking noise? Recently, a discussion came up in the Bronco forums about this disturbing sound.
It’s Supposed to Happen
First, don’t worry; you didn’t break anything. Ford designed this noise as a safety precaution: It lets you know the bolts need to be tightened more. Hear the noise in our door removal best practices video below.
The Solution
Check the alignment of your doors and tighten the bolts. In the owner’s manual, Ford recommends that you use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to the required 22 lb.ft (30 Nm) specification.
Once you’ve tightened the bolts, open and close the door, and the clunking noise should have disappeared. Watch the full video above for more tips on taking the doors on and off, and enjoy running trails doorless this summer!
