I'll admit it. This would be a strong consideration for me if it was available in the US. Especially in Tremor trim.

I'd rather have that than the "sport"...especially with the diesel. YMMV.

Not so much. The Sport is Escape size. The Everest is Ranger and Bronco size. I think it would be great for people that want something mid size for off road adventures. But have no need for removable doors and top and all of the more extreme off road bits of the Bronco. I mean realistically this is what the Explorer used to be years ago. An off road capable SUV. Now it is basically an over glorified station wagon.

OK, pics make it look small. Makes sense then, can we get a diesel in the Bronco since we are waiting anyways??

Super cool, but I can understand not wanting to introduce in the United States.

In the North American market it would sit in a strange spot in-between the Ford Bronco and the Ford Explorer. The Bronco isn't sold outside of the NA market and the Explorer sells poorly in overseas... so it makes perfect sense to introduce the Everest in those markets. But here... not sure it makes sense—would muddy the waters a bit. Bronco is a super-hot product, and Explorer is Ford's #2 selling vehicle, so makes sense not to mess with that.

It's kind of like the Escape/Edge/Explorer. The Edge always sat in that strange in-between spot, and never really made sense, and Ford has since discontinued the Edge.

But yeah... this looks like a really good 4Runner competitor.

Well the Edge is going bye-bye so there is a hole in the line-up. But yeah I can see a little over-saturation of the Ford SUV line-up if this was released in the US. Shame because it is a really cool SUV

And believe it or not the Everest has been around overseas since 2003. It was originally based on the last Gen ranger and Mazda B-Series trucks.

Here's a current Gen Everest imagined as a Raptor.

Yeah the Everest has basically been the overseas equivalent of the Explorer for years now.

In my opinion, Ford completely screwed up the Explorer in the American market. They should have kept it similar to the Everest. Explorer started out as a solid SUV, but then they tried to make it a family vehicle, then it became a crossover, and now it's kind of like a family crossover-SUV thing on a truck frame. Just a goofy vehicle in my opinion, and it was clear they weren't sure what to make it.

BUT, the Explorer is their #2 best-selling vehicle in the NA market, so what do I know. And honestly if they never did goofy stuff to the Explorer there probably would be no need to reintroduce the Bronco. So I guess it worked out for us in the end.

Ford is falling back into making too many models in the same category and competing with themselves.

It's interesting you bring up Toyota.

Toyota currently has all of these in the SUV Crossover line-up
  • Sequioa
  • 4Runner
  • Highlander
  • RAV4
  • Corolla Cross
  • CH-R
  • Venza

Ford has
  • Expedition
  • Explorer
  • Bronco
  • Edge (discontinued)
  • Bronco Sport
  • Escape
  • Ecosport (discontinued)

Let's throw Chevy into the mix for S&Gs.
  • Suburban
  • Tahoe
  • Traverse
  • Blazer
  • Equinox
  • Trailblazer
  • Trax

Realistically how much longer will the Escape keep going. I have seen more Bronco Sports on the road in the short time they have been out than current gen Escapes. So even after the Ecosport and Edge go, that leaves Ford 2 behind some of the competition. And wasn't their plan to focus on the truck and SUV market in the US exclusively???

Soooo I really think there could be room in the Ford US line-up for the Everest.

They did screw up the Explorer. Same as Dodge screwed up the Durango. Another fully capable off-road SUV back in the day. Just another vanilla grocery getter now.

My admittedly probably wildly inaccurate guess is the Escape will eventually become Ford's electric/hybrid crossover-SUV, and Bronco Sport will be Ford's ICE crossover-SUV.

I also fully expect Toyota to discontinue the C-HR in favor of the Corolla Cross in the American market, but they'll probably still keep it overseas. Hard to say though because Toyota likes to hold onto models longer than they should.

Don't have any idea what Chevy will do, every time I think I have them figured out they do something that makes no sense. I still don't understand how the Trailblazer, Blazer, and Equinox can exist in the same market. That's like the same problem Ford had with the Escape and Edge.

Funny thing is I see as many Equinoxs on the road as I do Blazers. I bet Chevy is still kicking themselves for putting the Blazer nameplate on what they did. Even though they play it off like they aren't worried about the Bronco/Jeep market. Makes you wonder if they have something in the works for the GMC Jimmy nameplate.

Blame Uncle for why we don't have anymore diesels, as if they were still mainstream and widespread, there'd be no need for this ev push.

Considering our girls ain't sports cars, I'd give up a sec or two to 60 for added range, torque and the chatter, though I'd gut the emissions crap asap... assuming I can get it with stick

I forget the 3rd gen Escape exists, especially as the B.S. looks like a 1st gen redux.

Govt Motors needs to take the current Colorado and Canyon and build a K5/Jimmy off of it, offer stick and removable tops, basically rip off copy Ford and offer a viable alternative, while Toyota needs to bring back the FJ Cruiser, even if they start by importing the Jimny after modifying it to our asinine Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaafety standards

Oh... actually... you may be right.

Edge was kind of like Ford's performance-oriented crossover (not really, but there was a performance trim for the Edge). I personally saw the Mach-E as the direct drop-in replacement for that.

Escape is the entry-level "everyday" crossover and I expected it to also have the entry-level electric vehicle someday. But I'm sure in the current market it would be practically impossible to sell an all-electric vehicle that comes in under $30,000. So maybe they'll just stick with the Mach-E for all-electric SUVs, and just leave the Escape with a bunch of hybrids.
