Wireless CarPlay on Hotspot

I am having an issue with trying to use Wireless CarPlay over the vehicles hotspot. I get connected to CarPlay and then go to get on the Hotspot it says that joining the network will disconnect from CarPlay. I want to use the vehicle Hotspot instead of Cellular since it gets better coverage in my area. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Can’t Do both. I had originally thought wireless CarPlay would be Bluetooth. It’s not, it’s Wi-Fi. And since the Wi-Fi hotspot would require you to be connected to a second Wi-Fi network there’s no way to do it.

Wait, what? Wireless Apple Carplay is not bluetooth?! How the @$% are you supposed to connect to a second wifi network?

Did some digging... CarPlay is absolutely bluetooth.

As for whether you can do bluetooth and wifi hotspot at the same time, using the same device, that's another story...

Thanks… I see there is a 2nd network that is a projection and it says it’s used for CarPlay. I would’ve assumed that would use the cars data.

Hmmmm I’ll have to do some playing around. I can’t believe they wouldn’t let you connect to the cars wifi.

I believe the car's wi-fi is actually your cellular wi-fi, once you connect your phone. The 'hotspot' is for other people in the car to connect. Thus, when you are using your phone via BT for CarPlay, connecting to your own hotspot would just connect you back to yourself.

Unless I'm reading this whole thing wrong. It's Monday, and it's still early. LOL

So I purchased a subscription for the Broncos built in hotspot through AT&T because they get better service in my area. My cell phone service is through Verizon. So instead of using my cell phones service which CarPlay will not be able to play music on I want to connect my phone to the Broncos hotspot that should have service most of the time. Sorry lol I might not have described my problem very well either! I certainly appreciate the help though!

That makes more sense... I actually didn't know you could put your Bronco on a dedicated Cellular plan!

Have you tried this (assuming Apple Iphone)
1. Have WIFI calling Enabled
2. Place phone on Airplane Mode
3. Join Bronco Hotspot (for coverage) - enables music, wifi calling, data usage

This would essentially turn the cellular off of your phone (Verizon) and utilize the ATT Service.

You can still receive calls over wifi (yes, I have had this happen on an airplane via go-go inflight).
You would stream music as well.

Lots of steps and maybe not worth the hassle, but you could try it.

I haven’t but I’ll give it a shot. I guess if all else fails I can see how it works wired…
