Sooooo....I have over 25K on my 4 door hard top Yeti . Yep the front window did indeed get chipped and has been replaced, no issues and kinda expected. HOWEVER, the rear window recently exploded! Yep. Not cracked, not spiderwebbed, full on exploded. I had taken it in to Ford to re-attach the rear defrost cable that came off....not sure why or how but did notice the elements on the window that it connects too had turned dark brown like almost burnt looking. Mind you I have used the rear defrost maybe 3 times in those 25k miles. They didnt seem too concerned and attached the cable...not sure how but assuming glued it? Anyway...2 days later as it sat in my garage..we opened and went to close the back window..it hit my husbands hand gently while closing and exploded. It blew up so much that it cut his face between his eye and nose, and the shards cut his forearms as well as my son-in-law's forearms as he stood near the back of the vehicle. WTH? When I notified the Ford Dealership they passed it off to a glass company and didnt seem to care that it COULD be a recall issue??? Does Ford Motor Company even get this information ? Anyone else have this problem with the rear window??? Glass company is due to replace it Tuesday . Love Love Love my Bronco....regardless.

Did it have any incidents beforehand? Hit it with the spare, bump it with something you were putting in the car, something like that?

I'm worried I'd do that taking it off, but to have it blow from closing it, that's worrying.

I don't think 1 window shattering will provoke FORD to start a recall just yet.

Your front windshield is laminated safety glass. If it cracks, it stays together. All the other vehicle glass is tempered glass which doesn't crack, it disintegrates into many pieces.

My point is, with the dealership dishing it off to a glass replacement company, how does Ford even hear about it? And how many other people is this happening to? It appears from above, its more than just one. Just had it replaced by Safelight yesterday. Tech said its the first back window he has done and agreed it shouldnt have broken so easily just from closing it. He did explain to me that they are meant to break away but shouldnt have "exploded" out like it did. He has been doing window replacement for 10 years.

This just happened to me. I've had my 2023 for 3 months. I was in my garage and just put it in gear. The socks shot out of the back window.

Hi there. This back window concern doesn’t sound like something we want you to experience with your Bronco. Could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer? To send a private message, just click/hover on our username and select "Message". I'd be happy to look into how I can assist you on my end.

(Updated) This just happened to my daughter last night on the freeway! The back windshield literally exploded. She thought someone shot at her. She just bought her 2022 Bronco Sport 6 weeks ago and is in absolutely tears thinking she made a huge mistake! The dealer said it's a Ford problem, and won't do anything about it. Ford, you need to do something about it. This is a window defrost heating element problem based upon so many other similar circumstances. She was barely moving on the freeway going about 25 because it was snowing bad, no one close in front or behind her, and it just literally exploded. She is lucky she wasn't hurt. Ford, I am going to send you a PM with her VIN. Please contact her as soon as possible. This isn't a defective windshield, this is a serious problem that is going to injure someone. They shouldn't EXPLODE just around the perimeter of the window. It's one thing to crack, but the number of exploded rear windows is turning into the same problem Ford had before with the F150's. If the cause is not fixed, then you're going to have customers buying $1,000 windshields every time the wind blows or someone is going to be seriously hurt. This is ultimately going to turn into a class action lawsuit.

From the OP, @Waiting For My Yeti:

"we opened and went to close the back window..it hit my husbands hand gently while closing and exploded. It blew up so much that it cut his face between his eye and nose, and the shards cut his forearms as well as my son-in-law's forearms as he stood near the back of the vehicle. WTH?"

It actually has already hurt somebody, albeit OP's husband is very fortunate to have escaped with mere lacerations. But between his eye and nose? That could have been a very horrible (and for Ford, costly) injury.

The dealership never even called my daughter back. She has to have the window fixed by her old mechanic. This car still has paper license plates. Ford emailed and said they investigated but windows aren't covered under the warranty without even looking to see the damage. The mechanic not at Ford is working with my daughter to put everything together because this is not normal window problems. Definitely a class action.

I am unsure if you are talking about the front windshield or the back glass on the rear hatch? Went back and re read your original post. The rear glass. By chance are there any pictures of the glass right after it happened? I am interested is seeing exactly How it looked.

Spontaneous glass shattering is a thing and can happen to all types of glass. Over the 20 years that I ran my custom accessory business we had 5 vehicles in the parking lot where the glass randomly shattered. Two large rear hatchback windows , one front , one side passenger and a rear window of a Chevy Blazer. Only one of the rear hatchback windows we had to replace on our dime as we had just tinted it and it was drying in the sunlight. I remember a couple of the other ones sounding like a gunshot as the customers and I were talking near the front door of the showroom when they let go. The wife and I also witnessed a large glass table top explode for seemingly no reason at a hotel we were staying at as others were walking by it . If you Google Spontaneous glass breakage a lot comes up on the subject. It's just how glass can react to chips, cracks or thermal changes.

Back rear hatch. Her mechanic said it is definitely not a "window breaking issue" as Ford has claimed.
