Tire Dry Rot?

Good Day All,

For reference I got my Badlands Sasquatch about 2 years ago, it has under 50KKM on the ODO. (I also got tire & rim warranty)

I noticed this about 2 weeks ago while doing my post winter maintenance & clean. Where I live the vehicle regularly drives below -40.

Does anyone think this is a safety concern? I am moving this summer & the drive to my new place of work is about 5000km away. Should I replace them prior to this trip?

Also I don’t think this is normal wear of a tire, 2 years shouldn’t affect a tire this bad; however, my local dealership is a nightmare to deal with. I’m trying to figure out if this is something that’d be covered under the tire warranty or not.

(It affects all 5 tires)

I appreciate the help!

Tire dry rot has more to do with conditions rather than milage.. UV, heat, sunlight, tire pressure etc can all contribute to dry rot. People often put stuff like Armor All, or other chemicals, on their tires which can also contribute IMO...

IMO, i would change them. Not one for driving distances on tires with damage. If it was a local thing, i would drive until there slick. Again, just MO.

Are you getting that type of pattern on the sidewall too?

Those tires look like they’re 10 years old. When were they manufactured? See above screenshot. I would also check for any recalls related to manufacturer defects or bad rubber around the time of manufacture.

Yeah they don’t look great but with 30,000 miles and driving in -41 below temperatures, what do you think a softer/lighter tread would look like? I wouldn’t be overly concerned unless the tires are separating or chunks are coming out. Thinking they are good for close to their expected life. There’re not very old. Manufacturing defect?, maybe but unlikely.

Agree, but worth checking, just enter the DOT number.

Are there cracks in the side wall? Cracks at the base of the tread block? If not there is no problem, I don't see any dry rot, just wear.
You must drive on dirt roads a lot.
