Soft Top Ripping Apart

I don't see the soft top lasting very long, before Ford needs to issue a recall for the soft top. Our OBX has 6,600 miles and the soft top is already ripping apart in the center where it secure connects to the bar. We bought it from the dealership this way, my wife and I haven't even taken the top down yet.

Doesn't surprise me. I'm already having the passenger side sound like it wants to lift up while driving down the highway. I think these soft tops are just as bad as the hard top issues people are having. I kind of hope Ford does a recall on them and actually gives us something decent as a replacement.

Now Ford will have no choice but to send our Broncos, with no tops what so ever.....i'll take mine with no top if I can get it earlier...LOL

Has your dealer weighed in on this yet? Will be interesting to see what the response from Ford is on this one. Thanks for sharing and best of luck on a speedy resolution.

That is terrible!

As someone new to soft tops vehicles - do you take yours through a car wash, or how do you clean your car? I want to avoid this as much as possible.

Luckily, 3rd party tops are not super expensive.

Not having ripping issues. But every time I lift the rear of the soft top to put things in the back the passenger side window pops out.

due to the plastic windows I would only go to brushless car washes or over time the platics windows will get scrapped up. Had that issue on an old wrangler.

Let's hope the recall comes around the same time as the hard tops are available as an accessory. I'll just take that as a replacement.

I only hand wash my cars, but was wondering if OP was using drive through which would put undue friction and things on the top (to be fair, you should be able to drive a car through a car wash) - but I don't drive my sedan through a wash either, I simply don't trust them. I could definitely see the spinning brushes causing tons of damage to fabric stretched across metal.

Having a hard time visualizing where the top is separating. Can you clarify where this is happening?

A relatively popular youtuber said the same thing. Can't lift the back without the side window popping out and having to be reattached before driving.

I had to look really hard to find this video. My guess is that most members have never seen it or knew it existed. Should be mandatory for all soft top owners to review!

The Leonardtown Ford dealership we bought our Bronco from is 2 hours away, so I emailed them and they replied, "I followed up with our service department manager. He said it should be covered under the warranty and you can take it to a local Ford dealership near you for repair."

I then took our Bronco over to the nearby Ted Britt Ford of Fairfax and after waiting an hour for their service department just take a few photos of the damage, they said, "we need to submit this claim to Ford for approval, but it should be covered under warranty. Everything to do with the Bronco is back ordered, so if they approve it will take a few weeks to get here before we can have it installed."

I'll post an update on the situation as we go.
