New Alternator and now wiring or a module

Hi Everyone,

Vehicle is in the shop and they are currently giving it a lot of attention. There is a long story to with this but for now just the facts.

If you see a Charging System Fault Code take it seriously. I got one and was told it would reset by a Ford mechanic when I was leaving a dealership getting an oil change and new . He said my voltage is fine he just checked it. I have no problem with that as no one is perfect and we all make mistakes.

Long story short above is me getting towed back to the dealership. They replaced the alternator and now it seems like either wiring or a module. I should get an update by noon. The big J man is looking out for me as this could have happened while in Moab or at King of Hammers or an overnight we are doing soon outside of Tucson.

Can't wait to tell you how my new KO2's D rated ride but for now it is all about the charging.....there is always a story to go with these events.

This is the screen that came up just before the shut down as I was driving. Before that every warning code known to man came up. 4 x 4 fail, driver assist fail, steering fail, service vehicle, lights, camera and so on. When the battery gets to 10.4 volts all all the modules produce codes since they cannot work below this voltage. These codes where all part of the low battery. I boosted the vehicle a couple of times with my battery booster. It got me off the road. Just barely.

I hope they get you sorted out ASAP. have you been driving through mud or muddy water? Just wondering why the Alternator died, sometimes these things just happen...

why didn't you just "start engine" 😂

Lots of dust but no water or mud. That start engine thing is confusing as I was driving every time that came on. No engine to start, it is running. It may not be the alternator in the end, we shall see. The alternator is not getting the right information. Currently when the battery starts getting low a module sends info. to the alternator to return battery power to the correct level. I guess 13/14v.

They first checked the battery. Run a 2-3 hour charge and test and it seems battery all good. Then they checked the wiring because they weren't sure if it was the wiring or the alternator. They determined it was the alternator. The old alternator was working itermittantly the mechanic told me. Then after they started the engine it still was not charing the battery correctly. So we shall see hopefully shortly what the issue is.

WOW - Sad experience for sure! Hope dealer gets ya fixed soon!! Wondering if you noticed low, under 12v charge reading on your gauge before this unpleasantness? These ecoboosts have their alternators positioned too low for my comfort. Wish Ford had this up on top like the old days..

Cheers

Didn't notice the gauge. Perhaps I should be paying more attention. Anything under 11 volts especially by 10.4 you are toast with all the electronics. Back in the day you could go down to about 9.5 volts with Fords. Not now I am finding out.

Some poor wiring that was fixed. I will probably write about it later once I get more information when I pick up the vehicle tomorrow. We are good to go.

Hello, very new here, having the same issue with my 2021 47K miles. Bought used 2 months ago via dealership and no history of this was revealed to me. Within two weeks of purchase started having "charging system service now" pop up intermittently and resolve without action, but 5 days ago got the "System Off" issue while driving on I-8. Freaked me out. Didn't die but lost entertainment module and AC. I have to drive to Phoenix next week and kinda scared. Have you had any further problems since you replaced the fuse? I want to jump on this ASAP!

First thing I would do is have them check your battery. I had to replace mine about five months ago. If if is the original battery it will probably need to be replaced. If you let your Bronco sit for any kind of extended period (this could be as little as 3-4 days) the battery drains down. These things are always on even when not driving them. If you’re gonna have it sitting for several days, keep it on a trickle charger. What you are describing is exactly what happened to me before it needed to be replaced. And if your living in areas prone to heat the battery life is even shorter. Arizona is notorious for eating batteries.

What kind of trickle charger are you using? Mine tends to sit for several days, and I've defiantly gotten the message "Remote features disabled to preserve battery" a lot.

I use this one. Have it wired to a plug outside my grill for easy access. Bonus is it also charges my Karnage Welder.

I have one of these:

Should I just leave it hooked up? Or do I need an actual trickle charger?

trickle charger/maintainer is best. You can leave it hooked up indefinitely and won't over charge. I took the clamps off and wired direct to the battery.
I also have boost pak but only use it for that purpose.
