Is there a TSB or known issue with phone syncing? Possible module that should be replaced?

My Bronco is going in for a few warranty and recall items (possible shock replacement, hard top replacement from cracks are the biggies). While it's there, I'm asking the dealer to look at the Infotainment system, but it's only acting up periodically so looking for help if possible.

Apple Car Play has been having problems syncing up, but it's inconsistent. Usually it's the audio portion - I will start driving and it looks fine, but then realize there is no sound. Music appears to be playing on the app, but no sound. When this happens, the map announcements are also not there. Have to shut off the car usually to get it to sync up. I thought I saw mention of a module that may need replaced last year, but can't find that thread.

BONUS related question: Aside from that issue, the sound quality for phone calls is horrible - especially on the other side. It gets worse at higher speeds, but even 25 MPH roads, whoever I call cannot hear me and unless I pickup the phone to talk. Does that sound normal??
Thanks!

On the apple car play issues, you can hold down the power button and fast forward buttons at the same time for a few seconds and then the SYNC system will reboot. That usually fixes the issues I have sometimes with audio not working. You can do this with the car running.

I get it if I plug the phone in and it is trying to connect wirelessly if I unplug the phone it works. Never had a problem with folks hearing me. But I do talk really loud.

This has started happening to me more frequently.. I have to reboot the system to get it to work. I am guessing it was a bad software update because this issue is new to me..

Either that or it's the crappy APIM module. There are people who have been through several of them and still have random issues..

Here is a TSB on the Sync 4 issues: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2024/MC-10249753-0001.pdf

Let us know what they end up doing and if it fixes the issue..

Thanks for sharing the TSB. I thought there was a bulletin that directed to replace the module, but that bulletin lists a new battery as possible p/n? Pretty sure mine is not a battery voltage issue. I have not tried to look at my current software version, but I do notice "successful update" messages when starting up in my garage periodically. But I think my issue has remained consistent thru at least a couple of OTA updates.

That's a terrible idea, when do we start?

I have the same issue with no audio sometimes. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when it happens. But the reboot of Sync fixes it.

The no audio when playing music is a new to me issue that started happening a few weeks ago. I never had that issue previously..

That's the only TSB that I am aware of for the sync 4..

Oh, and BTW, I just got the most recent OTA and it's still doing it. But I did lose my rocks. šŸ˜ž

Wonder what your version of loud is? 😁
If I'm on the road (with windows up), I can practically yell and still just end up hanging up in frustration. Or picking up my phone, which pretty sure is illegal in OH. I added it to my service order, we''ll see. I'm hoping they find a bad mic or something.
