My 2022 Big Bend has a recurring/unpredictable habit of turning on my headlights after the truck has been locked up for the day/night. Over the last 6 months and almost 5k miles, this happens so sporadically that it’s starting to drive me crazy! Things I’ve done to try and eliminate the issue:
1- only use the automatic lights
2- lock the truck only with the door button
3- only lock with the fob
4- only lock with the app
5- spin the light wheel to complete off during ever exit
6- check for updates for software

Any insight or suggestions are wholly welcome and appreciated!

Same here, I already had the switch replaced last week and it is still turning on itself. I was turning them off when exiting, which seemed to work most of the time, but on occasion, I would be told my lights were on. I was still waiting to hear back from the dealer as to the next step. There are multiple posts on this issue with an SSM 51166 with a DTC code stored in the BCM as B1533.

Yes the good old Bronco gremlins

I have this as well happens 1-2 times a month, Bronco just wants to make sure u say good night to it every night!!

You need to call your dealership and have the headlight switch replaced. Depending on your shop, you might get the "we can not replicate the problem" issue

here is info I used to get dealer to change (obtained from B6G site)

SSM 50842 - 2021-2022 Bronco - Headlamps Turn On By Themselves When Vehicle Is Off - DTC B1533

Some 2021-2022 Bronco vehicles may exhibit a condition of intermittent headlamp operation while the vehicle is OFF and have diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1533stored in the body control module (BCM). This may be due to the internal logic within the headlamp switch. Switch and/or module replacement will not resolve this condition. Headlamp operation is not affected while the vehicle is ON. A new headlamp switch is currently under development to correct this condition. Let the customer know they can continue to drive the vehicle and schedule a follow-up appointment in October 2022, when parts are expected to become available. Follow up with the customer to confirm the appointment once OASIS is updated with the repair information.

Hi there! I can look into your Bronco's headlight concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Bronco's VIN?

I haven’t noticed the problem yet,
But mine is in the garage.
I’ve seen multiple posts & threads about this going on.
Figured there would be a sort of recall by now specifying what build date vehicles this was happening to.
The last thing I want is to walk out to a dead battery.
Especially on vacation somewhere in the snow covered Rockies.

The only saving grace is the AGM and Battery Management system has a built-in shutdown to stop a parasitic drain, ask me how I know. I went to start the Bronco and got a message that it was in low battery mode and needed XX:XX amount of running time to recharge the battery, it only happened once which was why I took it into the dealer to confirm the issue and order the part which was on back order since last October, which came in last week and was replaced Friday 2/17/2023 and I had the lights turning back on again this past weekend and Monday during the day after returning back to work from lunch.

Thanks for that info,
About the battery drain auto shut down.
Sounds like they haven’t found the problem still ,
If it’s still doing it after replacement.
Frustrating to hear this.
Thanks again all the same.

My 2022 Base model is doing the same thing. I make sure I manually shut off the lights and only use the key FOB for locking or unlocking the doors. Keep in mind, if you open any door or the tailgate, the lights will switch on automatically.

This is a known issue; my 22 Bronco Big Bend had the same issue. Ford ordered a replacement headlight switch, which took about two months to receive, it took about 30 minutes to install, and the problem was completely solved afterwards.

Have only 200 miles on mine and has done a couple of times, luckily I saw light coming from the garage and checked it out. Not sure of a problem yet but monitoring.

Made an appointment 10 days ago for oil change/tire rotation and gave the service writer the TSB #. The switch was ordered and actually there, no back order. In and out with all of the above done in a little over an hour...

I started a post on this issue about a year back and I can't tell you how much it freaks me out whenever I park anywhere. It is also embarrassing as you look like an idiot going back to your truck and completing a VOODOO ritual to ensure it doesn't kill the battery.

There is a post online somewhere that verifies from Ford that there is a known issue and a replacement switch. I am just so afraid to drop mine off anywhere that I have been living with it

So, here is my ritual. DO NOT LEAVE IT IN AUTOMATIC LIGHT.

It is so stupid, but every time I park and turn the truck off, I go through the steps of manually turning the light all the way left and up to the top and main OFF position.

Once that is done, I get out and close the door and open the door and turn the damn switch back up to the same position as sometimes it will still be on, but most of the time it will be where I left it or off/dark.

I then turn it off (up and left) one more time and close the door.

Last, like a moron, I peer in the window to see if I can see the light on the switch. If it is off, I am good to go

If not, I go through the process again.

So damn annoying!

I just keep waiting for all of these issues to pop up. One year in I have none of them. It actually makes my anxiety and OCD worse. I think may need some therapy. Thank god I am Irish…

Can't you just hit the lock twice to turn them off?

If Irish, just have a shot of blue-label Smirnoff. Eventually, all the damn lights go off.

Yeah that's odd, have you added any aftermarket lights? If so, maybe the wiring got jacked up.
