Hard Top Seal Leaks

I've been on an interesting journey with my Bronco. It's been a ton of fun to drive and the smile factor is real, but I've had some issues related to the hard tops leaking and in my case, its been across three different Broncos. I shared this over on Bronco6G, but thought I would share it here as well.

I first bought a 2024 Wildtrak and as I was taking delivery, washed and ready to go, I felt a good amount of water on my lap. Dealer said it was just water left over from the wash that ran down as I opened the door. I was skeptical, but took delivery. Wanting to be sure, I washed the Bronco the next day and found water leaks in both front and passenger sides, soaking the seats. I took it back and the dealer's service department determined it needed to be taken to the body shop for "straightening". To the dealer's credit, they said it shouldn't be my problem and gave me an identical replacement 2024 WildTrak. I thought all was well and asked them, just to be sure, to wash the heck out of the roof and be sure no leaks. They did, said all was good, I came to pick it up (it was dry by then) and I took it home. Washed this second WildTrak myself and... no wet front seats, but quite a bit of water in the cargo area. Took it back to the dealer and they said they had seen this a lot and the factory said a new roof was required, so they ordered a new roof. They replaced the top and I took it home, washed it (again, garden hose, no high pressure) and it now leaked in the same place, but over the front passenger side. The dealer then explained that the new 2025's had a new top design but the only way to get one, was to buy a new Bronco.

I actually love the look and driving experience of the Bronco enough that if a move to a 2025 solved my roof issues and gave me features I liked, I was willing to take the loss. Thankfully the Bronco held its value well enough so this wasn't too terrible. So, I traded in the 2024 (with about 1,500 miles on it) in for the 2025 Sas Badlands with Hoss 3 and the new painted hard top (the version that's white on the inside). I washed it heavily and no leaks! ...until now. With 500 miles on the odometer, it was left out in the rain... and the front passenger seat is wet. The leak is coming from the top of the A pillar where the airbag cover seam mates with the top of the door frame plastic cover, just as I saw in the first two Broncos. I had never taken the roof panels off, so I don't know what changed, but here we go again...

It’s now back at the dealership for this leak. What in the world is going on? For the record, I don't use a power washer. I don't use high pressure, just a garden hose, though even if I did, one would think it would be okay to use those. The rain was a good summer soaking, so it rained quite a bit. But my god, I should be able to take a $70k vehicle in the rain and not get wet. I know a lot of guys will talk about how its an offroad vehicle and not to worry about it, but I just can't do that. Especially with wanting to take trips and not have my wife complain about needing an umbrella to go with me. It's just nuts. That's /three/ Broncos in a row that leak. Two with the MIC tops and one with the new white fiberglass (I assume based on the resin smell) version.

What gives? The dealer has looked at everything from seals, to panel alignment to a new top. I can't believe my luck on this. Has anyone else experienced this and perhaps know what's going on? The dealer has had my 2025 now for over a week with no update, but I'm very curious what they will be telling me this time. I'll post back here once they get back to me.

You should 100% be concentred about leaks, especially if it's close to the dash.. I'd say some stuff like creaks, rattles etc are to be expected on a utility SUV with a removable top and doors but leaks? Nah!

My last Jeep JK leaked like an Iraqi submarine from the driver side top front area.. Dealer had it like 4 times and it was never resolved..

I have a Badlands with rubberized flooring and vinyl seats so I do not care if mine gets wet but.... You have to be very careful with water getting on the dash area as that could be disastrous..

Leaks anywhere in a non Badlands could cause issues to the seats, carpet, dash, etc..

No issues with my Bronco but I feel your pain..

Good luck, I hope you get it sorted..

Hey RixTrax,
I have a '22 Badlands and have also had no issues with my top leaking, ever, thankfully I must add. It would certainly seem that you have experienced some bad luck. It would appear the dealer is set on fixing the issue, and time will tell if they are able to. I will keep my fingers crossed for you that this will soon be passed and that your future time in your bronco is as enjoyable as mine!

No leaking on my 24 WildTrak and I've had the front and middle panels off. I wash with the hose as well, no automatic car washers. When the panels were off, I thought it might be a good idea to lubricate the rubber. I used a silicone-based lubricant, Honda's Shin-Etsu. Probably going overboard as I bought my Bronco in late April 25. I wonder what the seals will look like after getting out in dirt and dust!

I seem to remember, a couple of years ago, regarding this issue on certain vehicles. I believe there was a service bulletin issued to dealerships on sealing the passenger side A pillar. Another self care item for everyone with hard tops is to periodically remove the front and middle roof panels and to clean and then lubricate the gaskets with a silicone grease. I use a dauber type. It works like a shoe polish or bingo dauber. I typically do this 3 times a year or after an extended off road excursion. It really helps to keep the gaskets soft and flexible, reseats the panels, and helps with the popping and creaking that I notice, again, after off road use. If you go up to the top right of the task bar and click on the magnifying glass, you can enter in any topic and find numerous helpful post and threads regarding every topic. Most of us who have had ours for a few years have dealt with these issues and more.

PM sent. I'm curious what Ford thinks of this. The Bronco is an amazing vehicle and beyond fun to drive, but I feel like the tops are hit and miss and the only real weak spot I can see on the vehicle. I think my particular situation is more bad luck than anything since this doesn't seem to be that common, but clearly it does happen to others.

For me, this is a retirement gift to myself and I intended it to last me a very long time, but at the moment, I feel hesitant to take it out if its going to rain, especially on a trip. I'd love to get to the point where I don't worry about that. It's not for lack of trying (and spending) on my part to find a good one, this being my third one. So, I'm hoping it can be resolved, but not just "for now". I'd like to have that confidence restored that its truly fixed for the long haul.

Thanks for the tips on the rubber seal care. I've been looking at various products people recommend and there are a lot. I would be curious if you knew the TSB on this as the Ford dealer said they weren't aware of any. If you have the number, maybe I can just point them to it.

My top does not leak even in a touchless car wash or using the pressure washer, and I can see daylight through some of the gaps in my top enough were it sounds like I have the rear passenger window cracked a bit while driving.

As has been mentioned by a few in this thread, keeping your top's rubber seals lubricated will go a long way in helping to eliminate any leaks, squeaks and creaking. I originally started using silicone based lubricants, but recently stumbled across an amazing product called, Krytox GPL105.
It is a clear, fluorinated perfluoropolyether (PFPE) synthetic lubricant for long-lasting protection in a variety of general-purpose applications including rubber seals. Krytox™ GPL 105 Oil is completely nonflammable and nonreactive, making it ideal for extreme-high-temperature applications.
Though it is expensive, you only need a little and it will go a long way. Amazing stuff!

I know there’s an updated front header seal if it’s leaking from there. There was a service Message out for it
