Hard top; living on the razors edge

Why didn’t anyone tell me that handling the hard top roof panels is literally death by a thousand cuts? I have “paper cuts" on both hands. It’s as if Ford intentionally honed a fine edge to them. Will smoothing those edges damage the top?

That sounds like something is off with your top. I've handled a lot of panels (even the first generation of MICs) and never felt that. Do you have a close-up of the rough parts?

No Pics yet, but the outer edges are sharp enough to give painful paper cuts if they slide across palms or finger tips. Both front panels (2dr). I have the cuts to prove it. Very unexpected. I’m using gloves to handle them now.

I'm guessing it is just yours. Mine doesn't have the sharp edges at all. Sorry to hear that.
Wildtrak, hot pepper red, mic, Lux, tow...Totally worth it!!

I suppose that trimming the edges after molding would be a step in the manufacturing process. Perhaps that step was omitted, or performed below the standard. If they were handled by gloved employees throughout the manufacturing and assembly evolution, I can understand how the issue would go undetected.
I’ll watch the forums for a bit while I consider what to do.
I’m traveling at the moment. I will get Pics ASAP.

We've removed our top panels and haven't felt anything sharp.

Odd. Mine has the look of sharp fiberglass in areas of the underside but nothing actually sharp I am constantly removing and installing mine with zero issue. I would imagine that would be under warranty but might have some lead time. If you're wanting them painted like the classic Broncos I would see if Ford or the dealership would work with you on getting them prepped and painted so everyone wins. Can't hurt to try.
