This is a question for the FORD MOTOR COMPANY(FMC):

Does changing the tire size on your Bronco void the drive train warranty? for example, changing the tire size from 255/70R18 to 275/70R18. Please answer and don't direct me to a dealer because, at the end of the day, they are not the FMC. They only have their best interest and pocket in mind. Thank you in advance.

If it is determined that a drivetrain failure was caused by the tire/wheel change then it could void the warranty. You actually need to talk to the dealership service manager. I suggest establishing a good working relationship with them Prior to the change. They are the ones who will be fighting it out with Ford. Ford does nothing until notified by the dealership.

like i said in your other thread, the front diff is the determining factor. m190 max tire is 33" an m210 max tire size is 35". it's posted on ford literature somewhere and dana's site also. your new tires are equivalent to a 33" so you are good no matter which one you have. take it to a different dealer, period. my dealer warranties my stuff that is way out of spec. thank you szott!!

If you have to ask, you probably know the answer.

Jesus, no way running a wider tire is going to void your warranty. I can't believe how paranoid some people are about this stuff.

I'm not paranoid, I changed my tires and I got a powertrain error light, dealer charged me $411 because they claim the tires faulted the system and since I changed the tires it's not covered. I want an answer from FORD. Not some jackass dealership rep.

Ya, cause those JA dealer reps are just that, JA's!! Don't forget the old saying...once a Ford JA dealer always a Ford JA dealer.

Just curious exactly what the fault codes were that came up, either on the ODBII when they scanned it or on your FORD PASS? An error light is a generic notification. What are they saying is the exact issue? Send a PM to @Ford Motor Company with your VIN and dealerships name.

One last question for you. When you did the tire change did you update the vehicles computer via Forscan?

If they think a specific issue is caused by a specific mod you made, yeah, they'll try to get out of covering it. But that is quite different than a wholesale "voiding" of your entire warranty, which is quite simply not a thing - despite all the fear mongering that happens on car forums.

It’s the powertrain part of the warranty that people mess with. The part that you want.

I would guess the fault code would be the one that says, it's your fault for putting on the wrong size tires, so therefore it's your fault you got the error. Sorry couldn't resist. :0)

Again, changing wheel or tire size will not void your powertrain warranty.

I could see the case if someone was dumb enough to run different size tires front-to-back, Ford could refuse a warranty claim and void the powertrain warranty. Hopefully no one is that dumb.

Or 37”s on any model or 35”s on anything other than a Sasquatch. Different wheel offsets or spacers are also suspect.

Only on the part that broke. So essentially equates to no powertrain warranty if Ford says your mod caused the issue.

That is the part that I find suspect. Did the dealership even contact Ford regarding coverage? In conversations I have had with my service guy, I asked him about hypotheticals regarding changes such as wheels and tire size or other changes someone may make, say tie rods. He said that the changes would not necessarily cause a rejection. Obvious abuse or lack of maintenance will be a red flag for sure. Most of the time my dealership submits claims to Ford and there are zero issues. He said it would have to be a huge red flag for Ford to even question something and that if a Ford engineer gets sent out to look at something it is a big issue. We as consumers need to realize that the telematics they have installed on all vehicles tells them exactly what happened, what we are doing, speed, braking, acceleration and where we were when something happened. They know everything. So like I said earlier. Get to know your service person and have a working relationship with them. They would be much more likely to cut us some slack regarding little things they may notice.
