Extended warranty...is it worth getting

My wife is picking up her wildtrac next week. As we are not familiar with long term viability of the 2.7 and 10 speed transmission, and we keep our vehicles for 7-10 years, we are wondering if its worthwhile getting an extended warranty?
I know, its an insurance policy, but is it it going to pay for itself?

Thanks in advance

No one knows. It's a crapshoot. 2.7 and 10-speed is used throughout Ford's line up for over 5 years now.

You need to decide if it's worth the price. You are correct, it's just an additional insurance policy. Extended warranties cover a lot more than the engine and transmission. I'd focus more on electronics coverage than mechanical.

My 2 cents.

It's a roll of the dice. I bought the extended warranty and I hope that I never need it. However, if I have an electronic failure, I'll be glad that I spent the extra cash. I too drive my vehicles until they are in the shop more than my driveway. Good luck with your new ride.

I echo Bruinsfan. Bought mine just in case. Look up "floodfordesp.com" for best price available. Bought numerous Ford ESP warranties through them. Great customer service, will get you your money if you terminate quickly and seamless payment if there is a problem.

In some ways it depends on any modification you plan to do. A engine “tune” or a suspension modification will most definitely affect any warranty, factory or extended.
Remember the manufacturer loves to sell them. A real money 💰 maker.
I like to insure myself when it comes to vehicles, but fear sells…

I agree with @Bruinsfan, way more concerned with the electronics than the mechanical. You can buy an extended warranty anytime in the first 3 years/36,000 miles. Not in any hurry myself. Best price is through Granger Ford in Iowa...

I am 12 months into ownership with 32,000 miles on the ODO. I bought Ford’s extended warranty. Time will tell if they honor it. Often, getting warranty claims approved can be difficult. Dealerships and manufacturers are notorious for weaseling out of warranties.

Ill be at 2 years next May and around 34k miles at the rate I'm going. Ill buy from Flood Ford before the factory warranty expires, repairs to this thing will not be cheap and I don't plan on ever selling it

I have had the Ford extended on my 08 Mustang. No issues getting a claim on it. Several times. I got it for the Bronco as I will keep it a long time. And the big thing for me is that I take it off road. So I know it will break something at some point. Shop around on line for pricing from different dealerships. Then the best price you can

It’s worth it if you have a major problem. Not worth it if you have no issues. Like any insurance plan.

Put the money in one of those money accounts at your credit union. Pay yourself. You will have more money for your next new car.

Yep not a bad idea, but maybe a high interest account. Mine’s at 4.3% for a savings. You will have it for repairs if needed. If not your money ahead.

Remember MOST folks do not benefit from extended warranties, that is unless you happen to sell them.

Don't get the ESP from your dealer. They mark up the cost considerably. Go to FloodFord.com. they offer Ford ESP for actual cost plus a very small markup. You enter your vehicle information, mileage, etc. Then decide which plan you want and deductible amount, years, and mileage. There are tables so you can choose a plan that suits your needs and budget.
I'm not an employee or anything but have used Flood Ford on several vehicles and they have always been very reasonable. I wish all dealers sold ESP like they do.

My dealership gave me a price and I told them I was gonna shop around. They matched what I found on line. I think it was Flood Ford that I had looked at. We all need to be savvy shoppers.

Major problems are like 9/11, we know when they are going to happen. The only insurance I carry are the ones forced on me. Everything else I'm self insured.

I am not an extended warranty buyer in general, I have however, always purchased the Ford Premium Care on all of my new Ford/Lincoln vehicles. In many of the instances I received a benefit of warranty repair that far outpaced the original cost of the plan--I normally go with the $100 deductible and if there are multiple repairs on the same work order under warranty, you pay only the $100 for all repairs--very fair.

What seals the deal for me--you can cancel the plan at any time for a full refund (if you have not made a claim) or pro-rated if you have. You can also use it as a private sale perk--it is transferable to a new owner for $75 (last time I did so) not sure what the fee is today but reasonable I'm sure.

Since it's a Ford backed service plan, getting coverage is not a problem if you work through a dealer. I have had many claims and never had one turned down. It is absolutely worth it with the sophistication of vehicles today and for me with the 2.7L Twin Turbo (longevity?)...not worried but would rather have wallet protection just in case...

I would look into this after you buy the Bronco, and don't get pressured into it at the time of purchase. Like someone else said you have up to the end of the 36 month warranty to purchase the Ford ESP. Dealerships during the sale will typically charge way more than you can get elswhere (I used Lombard Ford online for my Bronco and My GT350). With the amount of electronics that go into these and the difficulty they had getting microchips, I beleive it is good 'insurance' to have. Lombard was half the cost of what the dealer wanted!

Purely statistically speaking, you will get less than half the value back in your extended warranty. Some people will get more than they paid, but they are the minority. Without even factoring the total cost of the warranty (such as including the lost interest that money would have earned and/or interest paid when included in a loan), don't forget to factor in that the items you noted are covered by the 5/60 powertrain warranty, so you are talking about paying thousands to get 7-50 more years and 10-40K miles.

Personally, I always recommend that people create an "extended warranty fund." Take the money you would have spent, save/invest it, and use it for non-warranty repairs. In the end, you'll see you almost certainly came out way ahead. Keep in mind that extended warranties are not 100% coverage. Lots of parts are listed, but when you start thinking about many of them, ask yourself, "Have I ever heard of this part failing before?"

One last thought: neither the 2.7 or the 10-speed are new. Both have been in hundreds of thousands of F-150s and other Ford vehicles and are even beyond their version 1. I'm not saying that makes them perfect, but they've certainly gotten even better over the years. I don't know how many miles you plan to put on the Bronco while you own it, but 100K is not a lot with respect to the lifespan of those components. I could add some anecdotal evidence about the vehicles we've owned, including Fords, but ultimately, I think it just comes down to evaluating the facts and deciding if it's going to worry you so much that paying a couple of thousand will help you sleep better. 😊 Or, if the thought of having to come up with thousands for a major repair scares you, and it's easier to roll that into the loan by way of the extended warranty.

I will be definitely getting it, through Flood Ford. On my F250, I had some problems at 70,000 miles. Service manager said would have been $6500. I paid $100. Was given a rental car for 2 weeks. I will get the 6 year, 150,000 mile. Get prorated amount back if you tradein or sell.
