"Engine System has detected a fault" @ 500 Miles... Badlands 2.7L Automatic Engine Issues

Have to see if I'm the only one but my experience with this Bronco order has been an absolute disaster to say the least - any help / insight would be much appreciated because I'm at a loss for what to do at this point.

Backstory - reserved my Badlands at a dealership in Houston on July 24th, 2020. Waited 2.5 years and finally took delivery on December 23rd of 2022. Drove the truck for 6 days, and out of nowhere the engine light came on and it stopped being able to run. I was parked in a parking lot on the phone with a local dealership (different from the one I ordered it from) and the engine just died. Had to get it towed to the dealer for service and the only notification my ford app gave me was "Service Engine Soon Warning" - once I clicked on it, it said "The Engine system has detected a fault" and that was it.

A month later after dropping it off at the dealership for service, I still don't have answers and I still don't have my car back. They've put a new fuel pump and a new fuse box in it and neither fixed the engine malfunction issues. Currently waiting for a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to get delivered and crossing my fingers that it fixes everything but I'm very sceptical at this point... the vehicle has 500 miles on it and it doesn't run / barely starts.

Has anyone else ran into a similar issue? I don't want to assume I have a lemon just yet but I can't believe I'm still Bronco-less after paying for it in full just over a month ago. I've lost all patience and am tired of spending hours on the phone with Ford employees just to end up right where I started.

Thanks for the help.

I'm sorry this has been your experience so far: It seems like most people cruise along just fine with zero issues, but then there is this subset of Bronco owners who have problem after problem as service works to diagnose, get parts in, and get the Broncos back on the road.

Yep,
I hear ya !!!
I can’t believe with all of the electronics that Ford is in love with putting into all of these rigs ,
That Dealership mechanics are put into the position of just changing out parts to try to find the problem.
Just unbelievable that , this is the apparent procedure for fixing NO
“Attempting “ to fix what is supposed to be a state of the art off-roading vehicle.
So unbelievably sorry to hear about this.
It has been from DAY ONE my very fear / concern of taking my rig anywhere outside of a 50mile radius from home .
The electronics dependency is the very crutch that will hold Bronco back.

Like Laura said, unfortunately when you're building 40,000 of something every month there are bound to be lemons here and there. Still sucks though.

I know this won't make you feel better, and I'm so sorry you're having these issues. However, it really is a small subset of Broncos that having problems. You just hear about those on the forums and it makes it sound like everyone is having issues. I've got 5,560 miles on my 22 Badlands and *knock on wood* it's run like a champ. I suspect that I'm in the majority, even though it doesn't sound like it sometimes. Hopefully your dealer will figure out what the issue with yours is and get it resolved so so you can get it back on the highway and off the highway ASAP and enjoy your Bronco for years to come.

Personally, I don't feel that way about mine, and there are plenty of stories of people who've taken their Broncos on long road trips with great success. If it were ME, I won't own a vehicle that I thought was so unreliable that I was afraid to take it more than 50 miles from home. Perhaps it's time to get rid of your 22 Bronco and get a Gen 1 that doesn't have all those nasty electronics? But I can tell you from experience, on every run I've gone on over the last year where there was a mix of Gen 6 and previous gen Broncos it's always been the older Broncos that have broken down and held up the group.

Just supporting the very real frustrations of the OP.
It’s just a personal opinion here,
But having a brand new vehicle in a service bay for a month is sub par
(in my opinion).
Given they are apparently just switching out components to diagnose the problem.

On another note…

Its great that your experience over the last year has been met with such great success.

And to be totally honest ,
My last (forty years) of driving Fords has never left me stranded anywhere in the country.

I’ll be happy to have a (private chat) if you would like to lesson me on the dependability of automotive electronics.

Well they sure made and sold alot (literally record numbers) of Mustangs from 1964-1966 and had nowhere near the issues they have now. Advancement be dammed.

Vehicles are built by humans. None of us are perfect. With over 10,000 parts needed to build a vehicle, even if everything was 99.9% perfect, 10 things will fail. Hopefully your dealer will get you sorted out soon. Sorry to hear about this!
