  • Got this error: "Detected crankcase ventilation hose sensor is reporting a signal outside of its expected value"

Engine light is steady, not flashing. Dealer can't get her in to service until next Tuesday. Any ideas? Is she safe to drive small errands?

Thank you - Kimba

No expert here but looks like a pollution control error. I wouldn’t worry about driving. Flashing would be a different story.

Hello, I would be happy to take a look into your engine error issue. To get things started, could you please send us over a message with your VIN and estimated mileage?

I'd reset the trouble code and see if it comes back. Could have been an anomaly.

@Kimba2, you might start here https://www.tsbsearch.com/Ford/23-2185 and see if this is your model and build as it describes Broncos that qualify as mine does.

I got my first steady message and SELS (Service Engine Soon Light) about 2 months after taking my build brand new off the dealer lot 4/29/23. Long story short, I didn't save the message and did I schedule to take in but steady SELS went off on way to dealer. They told me I would have to leave for a week or so and can't run diagnostics with the light not on and they would not provide a loaner for the time they were keeping it. Be sure to save the message if you still have it to show to the dealer.

Well the same issue happened again on 6/6/23. The steady light went off the next day. I saved the message this time. Frustrated, I did some Magnum P.I. stuff and found the tsb link above and found my problem I think. Summary below...

Title: 2.7L - Illuminated MIL With DTC P051BDate:6/19/2023Models:2023 Bronco Summary: Some 2023 Bronco vehicles built on or before 12-Jun-2023 equipped with a 2.7L engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P051B stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to the software in the PCM. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram the PCM.

Labor Times Description Operation No. Time 2023 Bronco 2.7L: Reprogram The PCM (Do Not Use With Any Other Labor Operations) 232185A 0.3 Hrs.

Seems like the dealer should be able to reprogram the PCM lickitty split with the SELS on or off as this service bulletin was made aware to the dealers 6/19/23. I printed a copy of the actual message below and the PDF copy of TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 2.7L - Illuminated MIL With DTC P051B - Built On Or Before 12-Jun-2023 23-2185 19 June 2023 to take to my dealership and hopefully get this resolved and over with.

I reached out to @BN Ford Motor Company shortly after the recent SESL came on and we chatted about my concerns and if I was pretty much Johnny on the spot with my diagnosis. He mentioned creating a service ticket for my Bronco concern but he never verified that he did after I followed up and asked him if he did. He was helpful, courteous, professional, just wished he followed through, maybe he did.

Same thing happened to my Bronco a few weeks ago and the dealer said the Ford fix for this identified issue was to reset the error code and I have had no further issues. No actual repairs needed or identified. Hope yours is the same.
