Way back in the first week of April, I had the Bronco out in Moab. I stopped for gas in the morning when it was still super chilly—probably around 40–45°F. I lifted the soft-top lid and heard a SNAP. When I closed the lid, I discovered the passenger-side soft-top window had split. Ugh.
After I got back from my trip, I took the Bronco in to Ford routine service and reported the issue. The Bronco had less than 30K miles and was under three years old. Service couldn’t do anything about it and told me I had to take it to their Ford body shop (which is 20 minutes away).
When I finally got into the body shop, they took my information for a warranty claim. They told me the part was on back order for 6–8 weeks. After waiting two months, I called them back for an update.
Well, two months ago Ford denied the warranty claim. The body shop noticed I had an extended service plan, so they reached out to the service department to file a claim through that. And the service department did… nothing. They never followed up.
So when I called today, I had to get the ball rolling all over again. The service department finally filed a claim through my ESP this morning, and it was denied. They even tried to file a claim for the entire soft top, but that was denied too.
The reason for the denial? Ford said the soft top was damaged due to the environment. My policy doesn't cover damage due to freezing. Except it wasn't freezing. It was 10 degrees above freezing when the damage happened. Eh, close enough for Ford.
Anyway, if I have to put up with this much hassle over a cheap part, I can’t imagine what it would be like if I ever need major repairs. This is the straw that broke the camel’s back. I really wanted to love my Bronco, but Ford has been ridiculous. I’m canceling my ESP and getting rid of the Bronco. I’ve had enough.
Last winter, we were in Colorado with the Wife's Jeep. While sitting in a parking lot, we watched the window crack. Ugh. Nothing is perfect. But when we took it into the Jeep dealership? They covered the window no questions asked.
