Damage to soft top after break in

Walked to my bronco the other day (street parking in New York) and noticed that the back left corner had been opened and inside, someone ransacked my glove box and there were items everywhere. Clearly a break in.

When assessing the damage, the soft top had been torn and the buckles that attach the back window piece to the top and to the side frame were broken. I was able to get it pieced together enough to drive, but isn’t going to hold up in weather.

filed a police report, but was wondering if anyone had tips or thoughts about how to deal with the damage. Still need to contact the dealer, but it’s just the back window pieces that are damaged (and I guess better than breaking a window).

Not sure if anyone has had a soft top replaced to date and know that there’s stock. If hard tops were available I’d just buy one of those. Any help is appreciated

So you got four options the way I see it.
  1. Handle this through your insurance company. They would pay the cost to repair the soft top. Probably the “correct” approach, there is a reason why you pay for insurance afterall.
  2. Leave the insurance company out, and just pay the cost to replace the soft top yourself.
  3. Buy an aftermarket top like the ADV fiberglass top. Or perhaps another softtop from a company like Bestop.
  4. Ford isn’t selling the hard top as a stand-alone accessory, but they are selling replacement parts. You could theoretically buy all the parts individually and build the hard top yourself. It’ll cost just over $10,000, plus the cost to install all of the components (such as the glass).

5. Find someone selling a 4dr hard top (I've seen it happen)
then some combination of 1-4 to get the softie repliaced

Oh man that's really crappy.

If this was me, I would file a claim and then get the best top with the rear slant.

For my money, I think it is the best looking soft top out there and it pulls the side windows taught, eliminating the window wave.

One of the first things I learned when I had a soft-top: Never lock your soft-top vehicle. You'll be surprised how much it is to fix your top. Check you insurance, perhaps your "damage to your auto other than collision" deductible is only $100 (if it's not, you should make the change, the additional cost to the premium isn't that much)

Sorry this happened, hope it's not expensive

This is just terrible and hope you can get it resolved without too much pain.

I own a softie and the possibility of this sort of thing happening is constantly on my mind.
There will be better days ahead

Sorry this happened. At least they didn't steal your bronco. Looks like they tried to break in without damaging the top lol but found out its a lot harder to remove the back windows than others make it look on youtube haha.

Continue locking your doors.

Doors locked, might mess up top but they won't take the bronco.

Doors unlocked, your top might still get damaged but moreso your bronco might be gone as well.
