Cannot connect jumper cables to Bronco battery terminal

My daughter's car died the other day. I went out to jump start her car and realized that neither my heavy duty, nor her lighter gauage jumper cables could connect to the positive battery terminal in my 2021 Bronco due to a lack of space/depth.

Has anyone else had this issue and what's a good workaround? Thanks!

I actually had to do the same thing with my sons car and they worked great, however the jumper cables I have are the ones with prongs on the side and sticking out the ends, so you can go at it from any angle.
Examples of a couple below…..
I hope this was helpful!

That is helpful. Mine have the teeth that are inset from the ends of the cables...wasn't enough room or depth to get them onto the Bronco battery. Thank you!

Flip open the red cover on the positive terminal to reveal a few studs that you can connect jumper cables onto…

I learned this about 20+ years ago when I came to the rescue of one of my buddies and instead of being a hero it left me feeling like a zero, and that’s when I knew I had to find something different.
They have all kinds of brands that make this kind now, should be easy to find.👍

Even with the cover open it is still hard to connect with the old style cables, sometimes that little post sticking up isn’t quite enough!

I'd concur...that is exactly what I experienced yesterday trying to get a good connection. I ordered a set of the newer style cables so I can be better prepared next time!

I too have the extended prongs on my cables and didn't have any issues jumping a neighbor's car.

Oh man I have to get those orange ones to go with my Cyber Orange Bronco. I like to have ones that have battery and alternator gauges on them but oh well.

Note that only the positive terminal needs to be connected at the battery - there’s a ground stud available on the frame near the firewall, and that should be used to connect last, for safety.

@BroncOitis do you know where those orange beauties were being sold?

That's the exact ones I have, I believe I bought those 10 or 12 years ago.
You could always just do a search for Orange and Black Jumper cables.
When I checked they had the O&B ones just about in every auto store around us.

I have some super long big rig cables in double orange but no side teeth like yours. I'm going to hunt those down.

Jumper cables are definitely something I want to add to my recovery equipment. Haven't had a need for them for years, but I expect to find myself in much more hostile environments in the coming years. It's always good to be prepared.
Chris here. I drive a 2-door Velocity Blue 2023 Ford Bronco Badlands with Sasquatch, Lux, a 2.7L V6, and an automatic transmission. It’s fun.
