Brake Issue

Started yesterday leaving work. Driving through the parking lot, pressed down on pedal and felt/heard a rumble from front brakes. Best way to describe it is, brakes locking up on ice. Pressed pedal down 2nd time, same thing happens. Rest of the drive, no issues whatsoever.

This morning leaving for work, pulling out of driveway same thing. Happens twice again. Rest of drive, no issues.

It's not cold outside (yet). And being it happened twice, but only at start of my drive, no idea how I'd get that to replicate for a dealer to check out. Figured I'd put it up here just to keep a record of it. I'll call dealer later and let them know as well.

What's the humidity level like in your area. And do you park outside? We only have a 1 car garage and my wife's car is the lucky one that gets to stay outside. Anytime there is a considerable amount of humidity, the rotors develop a little rust. The first couple of brakes in the morning will have the grinding as it rubs off and then go away for the rest of the day.

Had a similar issue with both my bronco sport and full size. Dealer changed pads and it was fine. Said something about a solvent that wasn't applied on pads, caused a loud vibration and horrible humming noise but only on the initial couple of brake applications, after like 1 or 2 it would be fine for rest of drive. Not sure if it's the same issue as what you're talking about but figured I'd let you know what I had going on.

I totally agree with @nrlucas any time the humidity is high or it has rained witch in turn makes the humidity high, when pressing down on the brakes the first couple of times it will somewhat resemble metal on metal as if your brakes are totally warn out. This is normal since most to all rotors are made of cast iron, they tend to rust very easy.

It's been raining since yesterday and the Bronco is always parked outside.

I've seen rust on rotors on many older vehicles, typically the ones that sit for any amount of time (1 week or more). And honestly, this is a pretty loud rumble I get, throw in the fact that we've had days of rain and snow since I got the Bronco (11/21), but yesterday was the first time it happened. Solid theory, just not sure it applies here, seems to be too consistent last 2 days. I imagine I'll get the same thing when I leave work today as well.

I am curious about what @spencer2004 said. Never heard anything like that before, but to have the same issue on a different vehicle does seem odd for sure. I'll have to mention that to the dealer when I call them.

Yeah it was new to me. Never had it happen to any other vehicles of mine. My broncos are garage kept. Thought it was due to temperature or humidity and rust. But it was happening through summer and fall Temps. Never effected performance of brakes. Just very annoying, also forgot to mention it was only when I BACKED up from the initial start and movement of vehicle. Not in forward motion. Seemed to be an easy fix, but annoying it happened on both new models. Other than that, absolutely no co plants on either bronco
