2022 Wildtrak 2.7L Oil Change

Had the dealer change my oil for the first time and decided to change it myself this time. No issues, removed the steel cover to access the oil pan. Replaced the drain plug with an UPR Billet Easy Oil Drain Plug in the hopes of not needing to replace it each oil change. Time will tell if it was a good investment at $50. For the oil filter replacement, I needed a 1-1/16" wrench to unscrew the filter housing. Replacement of the filter was easy, hardest part was removing the 3 o-rings for replacement on the cover. Finally I added the 6 quarts of oil and primed my engine by holding down both the accelerator and the brake and pressing the start button. The engine turns over to prime the motor. Hope this post is helpful to anyone doing this on their Bronco.

I just reused the plastic plug on my 2.7, seems to work just fine on a reuse or 2.

If $50 was your cost, does this include the extra tools you had to purchase? I currently pay $62 for an oil change at the dealer. For 12 bucks I will continue to go there. I don't have to find a place to get rid of the oil. I've been told some places are starting to charge for that service. Thanks for the info.

My Ford dealer charged $90 for the first Bronco oil change. You got a deal! My local AutoZone takes burnt oil at no charge.

Does the dealer use full synthetic? Just curious what you get for $60-90 dollars. New drain plug too?

Based on the condition of the oil plug, it appears that my dealer reused the old one and did not replace it. The oil I used was a synthetic blend following my bronco manual but my dealer did not specify what oil they used. After 4800 miles it was very runny and dark colored. I know they replaced the oil filter cartridge and oil, but that's it from what I could see. No tire rotation, that was extra as well as an air and cabin filter.

I undertstand peeps who do not want to change their own oil. It can get messy if you spill, and then you have to get rid of the oil, etc.
I don't trust the dealer or want to wait around for my truck to get serviced, I live out of town, so dropping it off is a PITA etc. For those like me who don't mind doing their own oil change I thought I would share how I get my oil, filter and plug, for cheap, from Amazon:

Hope that helps anyone who is interested.

Thanks for the info on the oil priming. I knew there was a way to do that but usually forget by the time I change my oil.
This is the new oil plug that I purchased and put a flexible hose on it so the oil wouldn't go splashing everywhere when you release the plug. Which plug did you buy?

The drain plug isn’t a one time use part, it can be reused

I believe Ford recommends to use a new one but I agree I think they can be re-used. Since they are cheap I just use a new one.
I am a very strong believer in synthetic oil, especially on turbos, but that's an owner decision. I get 5 quarts for $22 at Amazon, its cheap insurance. For some reason my amazon links were blocked in the above post.

Only if there’s damage. The O- rings don’t usually wear out that fast

Six quarts
Is Ford still putting in the 7 quarts that was drained out of the 2.7 for the first couple of production years?

Six quarts for $22?

Curious, What kind of oil can you buy for $3.60 a quarts?

I put 7 in when I do my change, it will not hurt, extra oil = better cooling and less chance of starvation. Years ago in the 69/70 Boss 302 Ford upped the 5 quarts fill to 7 quarts. You would but a different dipstick to get the proper reading. No, you did not install a larger oil pan. Something most owners at the time would heed. Once the oil is flowing no fear of foaming, besides they had a windage tray, I'd think the 2.7 has one as well.
