The old pencil tire pressure gauge, or the tire pressure gauge in the dash of the Bronco?

I ask because this morning my dash showed 36psi and the pencil gauge read 30 psi. This was on the fronts, didn't have time to do the backs.

Please present your scientific facts, not just CAUSE.

Thanks,
Dave

Digital gauges (dash and tpms) uses newer technology and the calibration is much more reliable than the old mechanical pencil gauges. The manufacturing process of them hasn’t changed much. The part that slides is prone to dirt and debris which can affect its accuracy. In addition, friction itself can cause it to read low. When you get a chance, try this trick….. check with old school gauge then clean sliding scale and lubricate with a light oil lime 3 in 1 or sewing machine oil, just a dab, then check same tire again…. Should read higher and closer to the dash.

And then to check them both get a digital hand held gauge and see what that says. My digital ā€œslimeā€ gauge and my TPMS are about 1-2 psi off.
