What's There To Do In Detroit?

I'm heading to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan next week and was wondering if any of the "locals" could suggest places I should check out, apart from the show. Museums, galleries, bars, clubs, restaurants, microbreweries, and architectural or historical sites are of particular interest. Do any Bronco Nation members care to weigh in on what I "must-see" or "must do" while I'm in town?

I've only been in Detroit in the dead of winter, so it will be a different experience for me this time around. 😎
Chris here. I drive a 2-door Velocity Blue 2023 Ford Bronco Badlands with Sasquatch, Lux, a 2.7L V6, and an automatic transmission. It’s fun.

Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, in Dearborn. You will need a full day to see both.

Thanks @RNC! I’ve got a few days to spare. I’ll start Googling. 🤓

I'm really bad with recommendations because I don't leave my house, so I don't know all the cool niche and indie places I know Detroit affords, but I do enjoy going to the Detroit Institute of Arts. I also love looking at the houses in Indian Village -- great architects (like Kahn) built houses for people like Dodge and Ford.

Nope, this trip is totally for pleasure. No scab work, @OrangecrushBronco. 😝

I know Motown has some hip places to see. I got a taste of it on earlier trips to attend the NAIAS, but like any city, it changes with the seasons. I’m grateful they changed the show dates from January to September!

If you go, you might as well make time for a burger at Ford's Garage in Dearborn. It's a chain of early Ford (not owned, but licensed by Ford) themed pub grub type restaurants. 20's-30's era mostly. Good burgers and good atmosphere. If you like casinos, Windsor, Ontario is across the river, and Detroit has the Hollywood Casino at Greektown.

I went to Ford's Garage in Orlando, surprised I never knew they existed. I second this recommendation.

If you like some good Eats, and don’t mind all the different types of Meats, then this is the place for you for a good dinner.
It is pricey, I believe about $50.00 a person, but the food is out of this world….
I just went there about a Month or two ago, and I was speechless on how many different kinds of smoked, wrapped, seasoned and glazed meats that they will bring you, and the Salad bar is not no ordinary salad bar, smoked salmon, shrimp, seasoned mozzarella balls, and much much more.
The salad bar is a full coarse meal, but remember, “save lots of room for what they bring you.”
It was a most memorable experience!!!

I’m an omnivore, so I’m good with the selection, @BroncOitis! I really appreciate all the recommendations. Going to arrive tonight around 7 pm. I spend money like a drunken sailor so I’m not worried about cost. We live once. Might as well make the most of it! 😉

Well then you will really like the things they wrap in bacon. 🥓 😀
What really surprised me for the price, they even have wrapped in bacon filet mignon….😍
I’m thinking with the auto show almost right there you might want to call in reservations, we made reservations when we showed up and it only took about 20 minutes to get in, but like I said, the auto show is happening, Also could be a little busier than normal.

Everything is better wrapped in bacon. Especially more bacon. 😉 and I like farm animals, so I must be a psycho. I can’t help it if animals are so tasty. I’ve been known to wait longer for a good meal. I’m just looking forward to the auto show. It’s been years since my last NAIAS Detroit. There’s an energy there unlike any other venue, and this time the weather will allow me to see and do more!

Grab some carryout and go eat on Belle Isle, or just go take a drive around the island. Belle Isle Park is a 982-acre island with several surrounding inlets in the Detroit River. The Detroit Grand Prix took place here for many years, and There's also a small aquarium (free admission/$5 donation encouraged), apparently it is "America's Oldest Original Aquarium." You can get a nice view of the Detroit city skyline and Windsor, Ontario. https://www.belleisleconservancy.org/
