Life is a Highway

Jul 06, 2025

Just want to send out prayers to all of those people in Texas affected by the flooding. I know that the Texas Off-Roadeo is north and east of Kerryville. I pray that the employees, and BN members and their families, who live and work in the impacted areas are safe and that if they need help, are getting it. If any member in the are can give an update, please do.

The Red Cross was an easy donation and it will give immediate help

Just used Kerr County Flood Relief and it was also easy peasy.

I heard roundabout that Bronco Off-Roadeo Texas's people are all safe and ok. Destruction like @Jakob1972 posted down the road, however. A devastating disaster.

About 60 miles north of us is the Off roadeo that area was hit pretty hard as well and the Llano river has flooding into Horseshoe bay and the Lower Colorado River into Lake Buchanan. The Hill Country is called Flash Flood alley. The Guadalupe is one of the most Flash Flood prone rivers in the United States due to the topography and relatively narrow river channel and the catastrophic rain events we have in the region. we get storms that dump 8-10" per hour and if one just sit over an area or there are several storms training over the same area (what happened July 4th) it can cause a lot of damage. It is common for these rain events to happen in the early (predawn) hours so this took many by surprise. There are dozens if not hundreds of summer camps along the Guadalupe River, a large majority of them are in the floodplain because the land is less expensive. After the flood of 1987 and the Pot of Gold tragedy, many had moved to a higher location or had an emergency exit to higher ground. we have had major floods on the Guadalupe in 1978,1987,1991, 1998, 2002, 2015, 2018, 2021. The flood of 1998 affected Bexar county and San Antonio mostly, I remember being on the top of a hill running down to rescue my in-laws (they were camping by our stock tank that was flooding their trailer) and it was raining so hard the water was ankle deep. The 2002 flood was so bad it toppled the spillway at Canyon Lake dam and created the Canyon lake gorge. https://www.gbra.org/recreation/canyon-lake-gorge/

Laura pretty much nailed it here. these are the best places to give.

We also found a dog yesterday not sure if it is coincidence or somehow part of the flooding but we are trying to locate the owners see if it has been chipped or something.

Update, we were able to find a phone number on the dogs collar and called the owner he came and picked her up. Not part of the flooding but ran away because of the Lightning and fireworks over the last few days. she did travel about 7 miles though. at least one happy ending.
