Hello guys!

My name is Jimmy Stempien (#4993) and I am super excited to be graduating from college and starting my own business, Alternative Rental Cars.

We currently have 2 Broncos on order. The green is a 2.3 manual, hot pepper red is 2.7 SAS. I also have a personal cyber base 4 door on order

Just wanted to share this here - plan to open to the public this summer, and we will have more than just Broncos.

Congrats on your new venture. How is your business different that Turo?

I will actually be partly utilizing Turo, especially at first. The difference here is a higher caliber of service and care renting from a commercial host versus a personal host

We will also have local rentals off Turo for some older vehicles that may not meet their regulations - we plan to offer some cool classics and retro rides.

Most people who rent cars don’t want a manual. That narrows your TAM and incrementally adds higher maintenance costs which will reduce your overall utilization.

If you just do the basic math on higher costs, higher price (because of costs/risks), and lower TAM you’ll see it doesn’t make much sense to be renting out a manual.

Good thing there’s other vehicles to make up any difference there. Whenever the manual isn’t listed it’ll be driven as the runaround for the company - it won’t be a loss

Where are you based? Someplace where people would want to rent a Bronco specifically?
Are you putting any clauses about keeping the Bronco on-road?

Two things to consider when using Turo.

Prohibited vehicle uses and activities include:
  • Driving a manual transmission car without being an expert in the use of clutches and manual transmissions
    • If the drivetrain of a manual transmission car is damaged, the primary guest will be presumed to be at fault and will be held fully liable for repair of any damaged components of the car.
Using a vehicle booked through Turo:
  • to tow or push anything
  • for “off roading” on undeveloped or unimproved roads

  • If you engage in any prohibited uses with a vehicle booked through Turo, we may apply the following consequences
    • Void your protection for any physical damage to a host’s vehicle
    • Lower your liability coverage to state minimum limits or nullify liability coverage where allowed by state law
    • Charge a violation fee
    • Temporarily suspend your use of the platform
    • Remove you from Turo
