Rear Window Explodes, No Clue Why????

I posted this earlier on Bronco6g. I needed to pull out my 2Dr Wildtrac out of garage to get into attic. I pulled forward inches and the rear glass exploded. It exploded outward, cause there is glass all in the garage behind the Bronco left and right. There is glass in the cargo area but no glass anywhere in the back seats. I took pictures showing damage before opening the gate or doing any cleanup. You can see the pulleys/struts exploded outward. Once I did open the gate, the bottom frame of the window fell, all the remaining glass fell in the cargo area. My Bronco stays in garage, so I can’t blame the Florida heat. In fact, it was last driven a week ago. I’ve gone thru every scenario possible to try to figure out if I did something wrong. Curious what others on Bronco Nation might have to say by looking at the pictures.

Wow that is crazy. I know that there have been issues with the glass on the Sports and I think some of the full sized Broncos but rare from what I have seen. I know that glass in general is very finicky and by no means limited to any one manufacturer. I wonder if there are any issues with the tension on the window struts or anything going on with the rear window defrost mounting points?

Definitely some kind of pressure where the struts were mounted, seems to have failed there as plenty of glass is still in the middle of the window.

Oh that's such a disappointment. I'm sorry that happened to you @Jack Evans. Some people have had success with their dealer covering it; others have not. I hope you get it fixed quickly and it doesn't cost you.

I think there have been some recalls on certain 23 or 24 Broncos due to rear glass "falling" out. Maybe this falls under the recall/warranty. Taking pictures before touching anything was definitely a smart move.

I think I turned my phone sideways and when I post those pictures, they are shown normal, but if I hold it in portrait mode then post a pic, they post sideways.

Some good news update: while it was a little touch and go for a bit of getting done in time for SCE, it’s done and SuperCell here I come.

Happy for you that this was resolved and in a timely fasion. Is it OEM and was it covered by warranty?

Window is OEE. OEM is a 12 week national backorder. Ended up not being covered by warranty. Ford's stance was an outside object is what causes a window to break, or shatter or explode. The window company said tempered glass is very hard. Explosions like this are usually caused at the edge or the screw was too tight. But without evidence, there is no way to know. I'm just glad it's fixed.

I saw your post on Bronco6g as well after a quick google search. This happened to my 2023 heritage limited a few weeks ago but my drivers side door, in the middle of the night. Drivers side door window completely exploded from the inside out with zero impact, protected in my garage. Ford of course denied my warranty claim so had to order new glass and have it replace. I truly have no idea HOW in the world this can happen — anyone have any explanation? I can’t imagine it happening while being in the car.

Sometimes glass just breaks for no reason. If there is a flaw in the glass, even one you can’t see, expansion and contraction can cause it to happen.
