2024 Big Bend Black Pearl Edition

May 01, 2024

I was just wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a cell phone holder? I have gotten two so far and both didn't work right. I got one that clips on to the air vents and it didn't hold it tight at all so everything I would turn the wheel the whole thing would swing and turn. But if anyone had a suggestion for a good one I would appreciate it. And then my next question is about the front door pockets. They make a lot of different ones that use the frame that holds the net down. And you just bolt them right on. Does anyone have a suggestion for a nice one of those that you can fit a water bottle or maybe even a yeti ?

I’ve tried a couple different mounts, and like Tackforms dash clip best. It’s very minimalist, and very solid. Easy 1 hand phone mount & unmount. Looks like they’re out of stock on the clip style right now. Tackform has other more elaborate types too.

Agree completely with @Kenneth above… Tackforms is great, and when you don;t want to use it its pretty unobtrusive…

Quick question on the Trackform.
I'm looking for a mount that is easily removed from the dash as I rarely use it. How quickly/easily does this Trackform attach/detach from the dash ? Is it an easy process or do you use tape to affix it to the dash ?

Thanks

No tape, it’s a single screw. It’s not difficult, but does require using the small provided tool.

Brief follow up: This in stock dash clip version is even smaller. I like their slightly longer 2" arm version because it holds my phone little higher, which works better for taking phone photos over Bronco's hood while held in the Tackform mount.

That's a terrible idea, when do we start?

I use the Trackform Fast Track Plus bracket to hold my phone, GoPro, satellite communicator, and the mic for my mobile radio. They have all been solid, the company has been responsive, and I'm generally happy with them.

I really like that bracket. I wonder if it will work with the Ram Mount track balls. I started acquiring the Ram Mount products and I have been searching for a bracket such as this.

After trying the Ram Tablet mount in my side by side this weekend and holding a 12" tablet securely, I'm liking the brand.

Yes, they make an adapter that connects to the bigger ball on the RAM mount to the smaller one they use. The larger 25mm RAM brand ball won't fit on that bracket. I have one of those for a phone mount I got from RAM that I use when I'm offroad since the cool charging mount I got from Trackform doesn't hold the phone as tightly. As a matter of fact, I was using that one when I was in Moab.

The adapter I used was https://www.tackform.com/products/4...h-socket-enduro-series?variant=15995095384115

That fits the 20mm ball on one end whichI had on the Trackform bracket (https://www.tackform.com/products/fast-track-20mm-ball) and the 25mm ball that's on the RAM phone mount on the other.

But to be honest, with something as heavy as a tablet, I'm not sure that I would put it on a very long arm, endless you can lay that arm against the dashboard. Otherwise I would be afraid it would wiggle a lot as I drove over rough terrain. Check out where my mic hook is in the original picture. That arm is actually sitting against the dash.

Yes that ram phone mount works well with our phones. Most don't.

I just ordered the dash bracket like you have too. Comparing their bracketed hole dimensions and the RAM ball mounts, Both referring to AMPS standard holes, looks like they will work together.

for the bronco, the tablet will be going on the archetype assembly that replaces the grab handle on the console. The set up Casey had for his tablet.

Egroegart, try looking up Tackform (tackform.com) for cell phone holders. I am happy with the Dashboard Mount and the Dash Clip plus the short arm, the extension arm and 20mm Grab Handle Mount.
As for door pockets, I picked a set of plastic ones from Amazon. They hold two water bottles each (Ice Mountain, Desani, etc), looks like a Yeti should fit. They fit in place of the net holder, plus with my having a Black Diamond, the plastic is fine with being washed if I sleuce out the passenger compartment. FWIW-Do NOT over tighten the screws when installing the new pockets, you can strip the little piece of metal that the screw tightens in to.

Thanks woods. I have been looking at those this morning. I do like how they mount. I appreciate the help.

From the dumb question file... but if the Bronco has Apple Carplay and Android Auto, why does one need a phone mount?

Wait. Are you serious? I'm so dumb. I just looked and android auto is there. I had no idea we have that. I connected to it now. I am mechanically inclined. But I'm behind with technology. But if I can listen to what I want toon there then I definitely don't need the phone mount. I had no idea. Thanks for mentioning it. I'm going to read about it tonight.
