Bronco Tool Bag – Torque Wrench

As we ready ourselves for our 2021 Broncos, some owners may be using a torque wrench for their lug nuts. We know the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport has published its owner’s manual. You can access it via the link below.
Owner Manuals (ford.com)
The Bronco Sport has a recommended torque rating of 100 lb. ft. 135 Nm (Assumed dry not lubed) (See Page 320 attached down below as a pdf file)
Although the place card for the 2021 Bronco has been created, it is not yet populated with the owner’s manual. (That should come later.)

With all the stress off-roading can create, owners may want to consider buying a good quality torque wrench and the appropriate lug nut socket. I plan to use my Tekton equipment which has served me well and has a max of 150 lb. ft. See pics below.

Note: Although some owners may consider using an anti-seize lubricant on the bolts, that might not be a good approach until we receive Ford guidance on how to adjust the torque lbs for lube. (Honestly, I do not expect Ford to specify the lube rating since it was not added to the Bronco Sport manual.)

I agree, a torque wrench is a great tool to have. Some wrenching requires more precision than the calibrated elbow.

I have a decent collection of tools, but don't have nor have I tried out one of these: https://budgetreviews.net/best-digital-torque-wrench-adapter/

Anyone here try one? Could be a good space saver in the Bronco.

I have never carried a torque wrench in with my trail tools, it's not critical often enough to justify the space claim and the vibration and bouncing around wear/abuse on an expensive precision tool. But I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS put a torque wrench on my lug nuts when putting a wheel on at the house. I trust myself with a factory lug wrench to get a spare on there, but that's very temporary, hit it with the torque wrench ASAP! If you ever had a tire come off on the highway, you'd be anal about it too. I recommend anybody who owns a vehicle with tires, not just a Bronco, to buy a decent torque wrench

I try to follow the instructions to re-torque lug nuts after 25 - 100 miles. Usually find one that takes another 1/8 or 1/4 turn.

This, always. Also if you haven’t had the pleasure of aluminum wheels, be sure to check torque with seasonal changes. The aluminum changes ever so slightly and is enough to cause a lug nut to work loose.

Great advice @KennyMac. I would add to never trust that the dealer or tire store has done this correctly. They are notorious for over or under torturing lug nuts. Just had my wife's Acura at the Goodyear store yesterday and was the first thing I did when I got home. :)
