Oil life and gas levels changing

Let me put this out here first before I explain everything- I have been I contact with the dealership about both of the concerns/issues I’ve been having and they’ve been going above and beyond to help me figure out what’s going on.

I purchased my car back in May of 2025. Took it on vacation June 2025 for a week and came back, got the oil changed and the telecommunications went out in it and it sat at the dealership for a month. That problem has been fixed.

I just recently got my oil changed and maintenance check back onDecember 31st 2025 and then went on vacation for a week starting January 5th 2026 and the car sat at home the entire time. Come home January 11th 2026 drive it for about 5 days, oil life all the sudden is 0% the night of the 16th. Turns out there was a software update of some sort that happened the 16th between me running my errands. Thought it was a weird glitch but no it was telling me oil change required on the 17th. Contacted the Ford dealership and they watched it for a couple weeks, confirmed it was somehow resetting itself back to 100% and not going below 95% and then came Monday February 9th 2026 picked it up and reset some modules and got it back to me that same day, oil life said 95% (they drove maybe 25 miles, would that be accurate if they say it back to 100%?)

Well another crazy thing just happened- I filled my car up Wednesday night 2/11, the tank said 475 miles to E, I drive 50 miles to work and 50 miles back home. Yesterday 2/12 when I got home the tank said 375 miles till E which is correct.
I get in my car this morning 2/13 and it says 415 miles till E. Has this happened to anyone else? It added 40 miles to my tank. I mean yes that’s awesome more gas but at the same time that’s not normal!
Again I've contacted the dealership about this. This is just so I can find out if anyone else is having these same issues or not.

WOW - Haven't seen anything like your experiences with Bronco's digital info. Seems obvious some software reloads are in your future. Since Bronco has some 400 modules, it maybe difficult to understand which specific modules to update.

We live in mtns west of Denver and our Bronco's calculated 'miles to E' varies a lot based on what 2,000ft hill we've just climbed or
descended, so I really don't pay attention to Bronco's fuel stats only the actual fuel gage.

Guess I have a similar story on Bronco's oil life calculation. IMO, Bronco's 'Nano' V6 twin turbo should be run on clean/fresh motor oils that we're changing every 4 - 5,000 miles. I do about half of these oil changes and have noticed that when I'm resetting Bronco's oil life gage it's usually showning 'round 50% remaining oil life. To me that seems way too aggressive, so again I'm really not following Bronco's oil life gauge either.

I think the Miles to empty does change as the Bronco recalculates. If I am pulling the trailer it takes several miles to update to a lower Miles to empty and if I unload the trailer mid tank it takes a little bit of time to recalculate back to a higher miles to empty. you could have just caught it right before a recalculation and the next day was after the calculation. but I don't pay too much attention to the Miles to Empty just the fuel gauge.
BN 1100, Desert Sand Everglades. Reservation 7/30/20. ordered 1/22/21, reordered 10/15/21 dropped tow and hard top, reordered 3/9/22 changed to Everglades. production date 9/7/22 rescheduled 9/14/22 completed 9/26/22, shipped 10/7/22, arrived 10/31/22, delivered 11/03/22

Thank you for your comment, I do not pull a trailer at all or have a heavy load in my car at any point in time. It is straight highway miles. I don’t even have a trailer package on my Bronco sport.

Clearly,

hello thank you for your comment. I do not live in the mountains nor do I pull a trailer or put any type of load on my car, I live in Louisiana Texas area, and there are some hills but not enough to mess with the oil life the way this happened. Again I just got my oil changed about 2 weeks before that issue started to happen so it should’ve been about 90-95% oil life period, not zero and my car shouldn’t be resetting the oil life on its own. And when they changed it they did reset it to 100% oil life so it makes no sense with it going to 0% after not being driven for a week and then driving only a week.

I’ve had nothing but issues since we’ve purchased this car.

Oil life should not be affected by altitude changes. the oil fluctuations sounds like an issue for sure but the fuel gauge I would not be too concerned with at this moment. These things are rolling bricks so wind could be affecting your MPGs and Miles to empty, especially if you have a roof rack.
But if you are having constant issues it might be a good idea to look into a lemon law claim. All car manufacturers build a bad car now and then that is why they have the law. doesn't mean the manufacturer is bad, it could just be luck.

Ford's SYNC 'Miles to E' cal's based on vehicle's last 40 miles. Our '23 Bronco's SYNC4 system had couple problems during our 1st thousand miles. I noticed these issue because the 12" screen would go completely black. I could reboot and get the screen back, but this became really annoying while navigating a busy freeway trip that I didn't know the way and the darn nav quit on me at a very unhelpful location and I coildn't reboot at 70mph

Our dealership did a complete
software reload that solved our problem and It's been fine since. Dealership's service guys showed me the detailed description of this reload task saying it's 8hr time std was the biggist job he'd seen.

FYI - Here's the text from that work order:
