How will Bronco Sport sales stack up against Subaru in colder climates?

I think Subaru is going to be the main sales competition in colder areas. Any thoughts?

Subaru's motto for a long time was "The New England solution."

Its going to be a battle between the Sport and the Subaru.Die hard Subaruites won't change brands. The casual Subaru owner probably would be willing to switch especially if they got burned by the blown head gasket issue or the timing belt. Both problems can show up with only 90k on the clock.

The Sport is not a jacked up Legacy, but a suv body with an awesome four wheel drive system.I think it will hold its own.

Thanks. I appreciate the extra info. ...What do you mean “Hold it’s own”?
It can compete with the Subaru against the Subaru's strong points.

I'm close to a die hard Subaru fan - My wife's on her fourth Forester. We have the 2018 XT - last year they made the turbo -I thought I would never sell it but I've always wanted the
Bronco. I'll be very curious to see how it stacks up to the Forester once it arrives, I'm not planning on selling the Subaru until I can test drive the Sport.

if Bronco gets you ...it’s all over for Subaru. My 1987 Bronco II was fun in snow but the Sport seems like a total package!!

I had no idea it was a northeast kind of car since I rarely get to travel to that part of the country. When I take trips to Colorado, you see Subaru's everywhere, so I figured it was mostly in the Rockies. The way Ford touts the Bronco Sport Bandlands as a true off road vehicle, does Subaru really have anything that would be considered "off road" worthy?

People buy Subaru's for cold weather?? This is a first for me.
Ford's motto up here use to be, Built for life in Canada.
What does a Subaru have that my Escape doesn't?

Not a damn thing!
Subaru dealerships found a niche in Asheville and New England with AWD.

They don't have anything truly off road worthy, but they do operate off road better than a regular car, the Outback and Forester have better ground clearance than most cars.
When the roads get bad which happens a lot in New England the Subarus gained a loyal following. There are A LOT of them around here, New England has the largest market for them. 5 of the 6 New England states are in the top ten for Subaru. 4 of New England states make the top 4.
Being able to handle bad roads and lasting a long time with proper maintenance (head gaskets and timing belts need attention every 90k) you can get 200k miles out them.
Ford is going to have tougher time getting Subaru owners in the Bronco Sport than getting Wrangler drives into Broncos. Many drive Jeeps because you couldn't buy a Bronco.Subaru drivers have been driving them for decades because they don't want anything else.

When we lived in Colorado, my wife was convinced that the first thing that happened when someone bought a Subaru was their brain fell out and they forgot how to drive. Seemed like the Subaru drivers were convinced that they were indestructible and could go anywhere at any speed. They would take the hairpins in Berthoud pass at 70mph in heavy snow. They slid all over the place and expected everyone else to dodge them. Those were fun times.

I really hope Ford utilizes the "ALL WEATHER" aspect in their continued sales pitches. If you are going to attempt to lure Tree Huggers out of their Subies, the Ford Marketing folks are going to have to make a valid sales argument for "Greener" options and the Made in 'Merica values. I don't want to drag this into a political discussion but Most of the Skilled folks driving Subaru in the northern States love the flick ability of the AWD. Momentum driving is the rage, rain or shine. We went up north for off-road / rally training back in the day.

The unskilled don't want to admit they slept through Driver Ed and will never admit they ever learned how to All Weather Drive (AWD) but they live in the slippery stuff parts of the year by choice... Ford could learn a thing or three from the Subaru life style pitch... Yes, it's going to compete very well against the Wrangler but I hope for Ford's sake, it's marketing folks are looking further down the ALL WEATHER avenue @Commodore .

But, does Ford really want to lure those customers with a Bronco? I'm not sure that's their target demo for the Bronco or Bronco Sport. I get the feeling that Ford is marketing the Bronco Sport as a true replacement for folks looking to replace an older Explorer or Escape (not the more recent soccer mom variants).

Something like an Edge with AWD is a much more comparable vehicle for the AWD Subie crowd. But really, those stupid Subarus they love are just small station wagons with AWD.

Ford isn't in the Car business anymore right? Mustang and Focus are enthusiast platforms.

Well.....if my Bronco comes with a heated steering wheel......I'd say it will hold up better in cold areas then my non heated older Subaru. ;)
