Front USB not working - dealer says it's a Ford "software issue"?

I have a 2023 Bronco Sport Heritage Limited and the USB ports (USB-A and USB-C) in the front in the "media bin" suddenly stopped working - both the data connection (so no CarPlay, which I really need for navigation - the built in nav is terrible) and the charging. I know it's not a phone or cable issue as my phone and cable work in all other USB ports (it's a brand new, just out of the box Apple cable.) I tried rebooting the unit a bunch of times with no luck so finally took it to the dealer today. They just called to say they won't be able to fix it until Ford gives them some kind of software update - and it's a known issue.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

Had a similar issue with sync/carplay, (Sport Badlands) there is a way for you to manually update it yourself. Never had an issue with the charging not working. Hope this helps you avoid issues and dealer drop offs in the future. Let everyone know how it all turns out.

You will need a USB memory stick and then follow the instructions from the below link -
https://www.globalowneraem.ford.com...us/documents/sync/Update+Your+SYNC_WIN_v1.pdf

you should check here https://www.ford.com/support/sync-maps-updates/ from time to time to make sure you have the most recent software going forward.

Hi there! If you send over a DM with your VIN and Ford dealer info, I can look into your concerns on my end.

So it turns out that it was NOT a software issue after all - after they finally got the new software downloaded the diagnostics said to replace the “media hub”. Which was my suspicion to begin with because it wasn’t just a media/data connection issue - the USBs were completely dead, no charging either.

How is the parts availability looking for that? Hopefully you're back in action with the Sport soon!

I was very suprised - they were able to replace it the next day. And here's the cool thing - the new USB ports are illuminated - there's a blue outline around each USB. The original ones - and the rest of the USBs in the car - do not!

Awesome, that's a great ending to an unfortunate issue!

Well damn... My '23 BL SAS LUX doesn't have that port illumination.. although I'm not sure I would want... that close to the windsheild at night. Is it distracting? Do you have any pics of said illumination?

It’s inside the “media bin” so no reflections, just makes it a lot easier to find with the black interior.
