Been working on assembling a Yakima LockNLoad Platform K. Assembly complete. In the picture below the front side of the rack is on the right.

Yakima Roof Rack 1.jpg

Attached gear mounts for: Two Rotopax 2 gallon gasoline containers on driver's side. Two Maxtrax recovery boards on passenger side. One shovel.

Yakima Roof Rack 2.jpg

Rack, mounts and gear. Total weight with four gallons of gasoline will be 109lbs. All the mounts allow for easy relocation as I field test the layout.

Yakima Roof Rack 3.jpg

Have the hardware to attach the rack to the Ford crossbars. All I need now is the Bronco! :)

Love your configuration! Low profile and everything in its place. I am struggling with making early purchases, so I have decided to wait until May when we get projected build dates. I cannot wait to see your build; keep the eye candy coming!

Looks great @BuzzyBud
What did you use to mount the shovel?
I used QuickFist on my Rubicon and I am not thrilled - yours is very clean!

For me, this project started months ago. The supply chains were, and may still be, disrupted. The recovery boards were the most challenging to locate due to the color and the supply chains out of Australia. I ended up working with a shop in Arizona which arranged a drop shipment. It took weeks!

Like everyone else, I have no idea when my Bronco will arrive. However, when it does arrive, I will be focused on several additional projects and hopefully hit the trails. This roof rack was easy, just time consuming.

I used Yakima TopGrip.
The delivery took many weeks to arrive. Supply Chains?

That platform looks so useful. Mounting points everywhere! How long did it take to assemble?

I suspect a typical person would take 1to 2 hours. It took me about 3 hours since I was working with a YouTube video and discovered the video was using an old version of the rack. You do need to be careful, but it is worth the effort. Appears to be a great piece of gear! By the way, I bought my rack on Amazon and saved a lot of money compared with the price on the B&P.

I thought it might be helpful to provide more detailed information regarding the overall weight and the weight of the individual components and why that might be important.

I chose the Yakima LockNLoad Platform K which has a weight of 46lbs. It was large enough for my needs and yet not too large. The mounts as a group weighed in at approximately 3 pounds. The Maxtrax Xtreme boards are 22lbs. The shovel is 3 lbs. The Rotopax with gasoline will weigh up to 35lbs. Total weight of 109lbs maximum.

We know Ford has told us the dynamic weight limit for the roof/rails/crossbars is 110lbs. My goal was to stay within the published load limit. I was also attempting to accomplish side-to-side balancing as best I could achieve with the chosen gear.

It was an interesting project!

Where did you find the dynamic weight limit for the roof/rails/crossbars from Ford? I was planning on getting a hard shell roof top tent and they're heavier than 110lbs.

This is awesome and inspiring!! I’m aware of the limits, especially with the FE extra limits. Booo! BUT, I’m still thinking about trying to mount the rack up there and put about 40-60lbs of load up there. It’s either going there or on the rear door/trailer hitch basket.

My greatest concern was finding a place to carry extra fuel. The 2door has only a 16 gallon fuel tank.
I would have preferred mounting an after market holder on the rear bumper, however I was not able to locate any rear bumper Bronco bolts. Some owners might just replace the rear bumper, I was trying to avoid that option.

Yeah I wanted to add not replace or take away. But I can see me having to add a second engine and doubling the suspension to get hold

I don’t recall seeing the actual steel rear bumper for the badlands yet. All of the rear bumpers have looked like the plastic covered version and not the powder coated steel On the pre-production units

It is true the Broncos in the pictures below are both pre-productions, but the bumpers may not change much as production begins. The top pic shows a Base model with plastic bumpers. The second pic shows a Black Diamond with steel bumpers. Both the Badlands and the Black Diamond should have the same steel rear bumpers. Hope this helps.

@BuzzyBud RotopaX makes a holder that attaches to the bolts on the spare tire lugs. https://rotopax.com/jeep-tire-mount.html

and Vector makes a nice version as well. https://vectoroffroad.com/products/jk-exo-rack

Neither are Bronco specific (yet) but if they are not direct bolt on, modification of the mounting plate would be quite simple.

Thank you for these links.
I do like the idea of placing the RotopaX in the back area of the Bronco. I am planning to use a 35-inch spare tire and was not sure of the load capacity on the rear tailgate. Time will tell!
