Wires coming out of mirror posts for lights, did you drill or pinch?

So yesterday when I pulled apart the mirror post plastic to check out the wiring for my second set of Hellas (up by the windshield), I took off the two Bronco torque screws only to realize that there is actually no holes in the plastic?

So… How are you all wiring through, I'm curious?

Are you just pinching the wire and tightening down the bolts or actually drilling through the plastic that Ford supplies to cover that odd arm that makes way to the HEATED MIRRORS!!! (really cool as I didn’t know the Base has heated mirrors… SCORE!)

Anyways, all and any help or pictures of how you got wires through will help. I have made it a goal to never cut or modify anything that came on the truck, plus, whenever I do change or remove I seal up what I have taken off from Ford and store it so it can always go back to bone stock. This is why I really don't want to drill those plastic top halves on that long-ass, baguette, mustache-like looking mirror bracket that Ford plopped like pizza dough on the front windshield of the Bronco (not so fond of the design). I scored the below 4” Hellas with matching yellow lights and black covers only smaller! With these 4” amber's arriving next week, I plan on installing them and don't want to really drill!

@1Five1 Garage has a video of them adding a couple of lights to the cowl. It appears their is a small area where a couple of panels comes together.

Ah, hah! So they never go through where the screw goes, they just go in front of the entire assembly. makes complete sense now that I think about it. I assume there must be no issues with the hood pinching or pulling in the wire as it opens and closes?

Nope, you just loosen up the plastic part to get the wire/plug through to under the hood.

I'd show ya the cheap amazon lights I put on my Bronco, but it's too dirty to put that pic up ;)

Wiring was real easy using the Auxiliary switches as well.

Really nice to know that you can hide the union wire in the plastic cowl as well. I was afraid I would have to ride the firewall externally in heat shrink with zip ties the whole way but this is a great way to hide all the spaghetti! Glad I watched your vid. I was wondering why Ford doesn't have a removal plug/3/8 cap that you exchange for a wire donut to run directly under the wire so it is not looping behind or in front of any hinges/moving parts.

Thanks! Useful info. I really should film the stuff I do

Ah, hah! So they never go through where the screw goes, they just go in front or behind the entire mirror arm assembly. Makes complete sense now that I think about it. I assume there must be no issues with the hood pinching or pulling in the wire as it opens and closes? Funny, Baja Designs suggests running it in front where the hood closes. I am sure there is enough room, but I like your idea of going behind. Out of sight and movement in all ways.

Behind the cowl panel there is a small gap where the 2 panels meet... in front of the windshield. There is enough room to put the wiring there and not get pinched when bolted back down.

I saw the way the other site told you to do it. HOLY CRAP... I would have never thought of running it in front where the hood can pinch it. The way we ran it is not in front of any moving parts. Just shocked that a big company told people to do that. Leave it to a Couple with a YouTube channel and a slight case of OCD to come up with a better way. glad you like the videos. We have more stuff coming out... And when the BL and BD get here we will be be doing a lot of stuff to all.

Laughed out loud when you noted the OCD! Cause I soooooooooooooooooooooooo overthink every single thing I work on! In some cases, it is often overkill, but so many times bc of my overthinking I see things differently; in the end, def doing it your way!
