Trying to figure why Bronco Nation doesn't want to share content with the Bronco6G forum considering BN is owned by Ford and trying to sell Broncos?Screen Shot 2021-01-26 at 6.10.40 PM.pngScreen Shot 2021-01-26 at 6.10.40 PM.png

I have and always will focus on being a knowledgeable and helpful member of the community of Bronco owners. I spent years as a Registered Maine Guide – Ocean Kayaking for the state of Maine. Many of the paddlers I worked with were members of various social media organizations. However, when we were on the water we functioned as one team. It is my hope when each of us are out on the trails we work together as a team. That is all I have to say.

Did you not see the ads for their new membership? BN wants more people to join and pay for membership.

The problem with BN is that a vibrant community already existed and they were the new kid on the block. They should’ve just bought 6g and unified the community.

I messaged Dave about it this morning. He said there is a misunderstanding and BN was trying to rectify it. I didn't ask anymore questions, but I'm waiting it out to see what happens.
Just wanted to let you guys know before things escalate more.

I am looking at your post regarding the “infringement”. I am curious as what this infringement was. You didn’t post the whole letter? Maybe the rest of the letter answers your question?

So ironically, when I saw your signature, I was thinking when I go order mine, I’m doing that! I will add it below my current content though. Do I need any copywriter permissions?

I think part of the challenge is exclusive content for members. BN posts and then shows up elsewhere. Therefore paid membership is pointless for content. There are other features of BN, but exclusive content for members doesn't stay exclusive.

For example, photos with BN watermarks showing up on the other site that were posted here for members. That trends on the other site taking away from what people pay for here. Just my 2 cents.

Personally I like the decorum of people here. I know many of us are on both sites, but there seems to be more hate and discontent in their threads by posters (not necessarily their fault). We all seem to be respectful, helpful, and genuinely friendly. That alone is worth the price of admission.

I've been wandering about this myself. If you look back on the 15th, Dave posted this about 6G. I've highlighted the interesting part.

Well, the company that runs B6G also runs Jeep forums so maybe that's to be expected. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In all seriousness though, I want to echo @TorgSurv and say that we're here to be warm and welcoming to all who love Bronco. Many of our folks are active on several Bronco forums and we're certainly fine with that. It'd be pretty weird to expect our users to only contribute here. If you're deeply enthusiastic about something, you'll probably engage with it anywhere you can. We shouldn't expect to monopolize the time you spend engaging with the things that you love.

That being said, there are certain practices that other forums engage in that aren't in the spirit of building a broad and collaborative Bronco community. To wit, we generally leave links to other sites in our user's posts because we believe that if another site has done the work of creating content, then they should reap the benefits of their work. This morning, in response to a question that was asked in one of our Bronco Sport forums, someone posted a link to the Bronco Sport forum that is a sister site to B6G. Conventional wisdom would be to remove that post, answer the question using the information taken from the other site, and then point to our reproduction of that answer. We don't do that. The work that answered the user's question was done elsewhere, so they should receive some credit for that.

Not all sites operate like this. As an example, if I go to Google and search "Bronco Delivery Timeline" my first result is a reprinting of an article that I wrote on Bronco Nation but it's been copied to B6G. They have removed any links back to my article, and they have replaced my link to the Bronco Order Guide with a link to their own thread. Now, it isn't always the B6G user that does it. Generally, an administrator or moderator dresses the post and alters the links to ensure that no traffic leaves their site. Now you can say, "Well Dave, why don't we do the same thing. Seems like that's just the way that the internet works." I'd say that you aren't wrong and maybe we'll have to resort to that at some point but for now, we want to give that idea of building a broad and collaborative Bronco community a chance. Yes, it's super annoying to have an article that I spent a lot of time developing stolen, but we've got our eyes on a bigger prize.

A healthy online community has a group of content creators working together to make great stuff centered on the thing that they all love. This is why we've worked with @mitchcreel from Wild Horses in videos and articles, why we've collaborated with @Nashville Early Bronco on the Bronco How-To series, and why we'll be working with more in the future. Bronco's rising tide should lift all boats, even if Bronco can't quite tow them all. ;)

This is only speculation on my part. Because of Dave's stance on the whole situation, it really puzzled me when I saw announcement on 6G this morning. Just didn't add up.

Agreed. Copy writes are applied for for a reason. IDK what exactly this is referring to but if copy writes are being ignored, the legal dept has to do what they are supposed to do, hence the cease and desist letter. And if content is being "stolen" without giving the author proper credit that's BS too.

I’ve never like how 6g copy and pastes all their news directly into a thread instead of linking to the source.

IMHO, there’s a big difference in the two methods of presenting news finds.

I’m never a big fan of legal pushing, but I’ll wait for the whole story.

Lets all us users agree not to fan the flame of this. I'm a happily paid member of BN. I use both. I spend more time here. I'd encourage everybody to check out both and decide for themselves where they would like to spend their online time. It's like a Big Bend vs a Badlands. Neither is inherently better than the other; every Bronco buyer should get the one that works best for their wants/needs constrained by budget :) . Spend your time where you get the most enjoyment.

The people that REALLY know the whole story on this won't (and likely legally can't) comment on the full nature of what is going on. The whole "we don't comment on pending litigation" line.

And BTW, Mrs @tlowell01 is an attorney, but not an IP one!

Plus anyone that's ever written anything in school with sources, you're supposed to document. Otherwise it's plagiarism to copy paste. Site A writes an article for members or public. Site B takes that content, does not link back to source or writer, and benefits from increased traffic. Whether it's intentional or not, you need to cite your sources.
