Who else is happy with the 2.3t/Stick?

Having already built a 2.3t Mustang, I already know what it's capable of:

1619713602443.png
CFM Baffled Billet Valve Cover Breather Kit
MMR CAI
UPR Dual Valve Oil Catch Can
FFTec Charge Pipes
FFTec Street Intercooler
Synapse DV
Steeda Throttle Body Spacer
Boomba Intake Manifold Spacer
NGK 6510
Custom tune w/Cobb

It's not an 2.7tt, but still will hustle! Add a downpipe, catback, wastegate actuator and a few additional misc parts and it'll get over 330whp/400tq (405 crank according to this). Even then, just a good little engine despite the sound, less nose weight and still will move, and just a tune alone wakes things up, as seen here

"The 2.3L EcoBoost's factory tuning leaves plenty on the table for 5-Star to work with and really transform your Ranger. The average baseline power output of 5-Star's test truck at stock 93 octane was about 256 horsepower and roughly 281lb-ft of torque. With 5-Star's powerful 93 octane Performance tune, that same 2.3L EcoBoost truck put down an average of 312 horsepower and 369lb-ft of peak torque. That's a gain of 56 horsepower and 88lb-ft of torque over stock at peak increase. Most impressively is that the maximum gain in peak torque took place at 3450rpm, where stock torque sat at a measly 281lb-ft, giving you a big bump in pulling power and off-the-line performance without the turbo lag and hesitation of the factory tune. In additional testing, the tuned Ranger performed a 0-60 MPH test in only 5.49 seconds while the stock clocked in at a significantly slower 7.44 seconds with the same test conditions and constraints. The power gains are paired up with greatly overhauled transmission shift points and shift pressures which take most of the sluggishness out of your 2019-2021 Ranger and let you really enjoy its improved power output. "

Figure we'd be similar to the Ranger, so yeah, we know what to expect. All that said, end of the day, 0-60 and all that don't matter so long as you're in full control and can row gears, so yeah, happy with what we're getting. Just my two cents, feel free to opine as well

Pretty much no power below 2500, you need power from off idle on up, not starting at 3000 for a 4 wheeler.

True, but also gonna be my daily, so not too concerned personally, though I do understand your concern.

I'm sure the aftermarket will figure out a turbo that kicks in sooner, always something for everyone out there.

I also know for a fact, don't remember off the top of my head which mods can do it, but certain ones will lower the rpm's needed to engage the turbo. Either way, just like that it'll make power much more easily than a Wrangler

I'm perfectly happy with the 2.3l/7sp MT.

I don't get engine envy.

MT + most capable off-road mechanicals + highest comfort/tech/safety package = VERY VERY happy @tlowell01 !!!!!

I don't need the packages or safety, but I live 10 mins from the other Jersey Shore (Asbury Park, Long Branch, Sea Bright, etc.) and see on Rt18 on my way too and from work during the summer topless Wranglers of all Gens driving topless, full and cruising to wherever they're off to. I see that, and think how cool it'd be to be like them, now I can, although with something a lot better and with an engine that's a few bolt on's and a tune away from leaving most stock vehicles around me in the dust.

To me, always been Manual then Engine, why I wasn't disappointed with the sole choice, also figure it'd save us $$$ that can be reinvested into mods

*Side note, Ford should offer a short shifter kit as an option, as well as a Stainless Steel Clutch Line like they do with the Mustangs

I wonder if you can just do a compound turbo set up. Makes a big difference on the Cummins. It gets the big turbo to spool up faster, so less turbo lag.
But I am down for this experiment, I’m getting the MT.

I rode in a 4 door 2.3 7 speed at the super celebration. I was really surprised how much pep it had. My wife's Edge Sport has the 2.7 so I have a idea how they run. After riding in the 21 I would consider the 2.3 just so I could get the 7 speed.

Yes that right, I forgot about that. I’m still old school. The one turbo I have worked on is my 1997 5.9l 12V Diesel. My new turbo only has 1000 miles on it so haven’t even tinkered with it yet.

So if I'm correct, you lose top end power with it but gain more immediate low end, making them more for dailies and most likely offroading compared to a regular old turbo like the K03 in my A4.

1619793106918.png

Now, I'm merely presenting a turbo upgrade for the Ranger here, my real question is what's the limits on the clutch and trans gonna be power wise, since while I don't wanna be a world beating Dragster and don't need to be taking down Wrangler 392's on a daily basis, still wanna eventually go big when the warranty expires and I can move past the fbo stage of things

All I need is 190 hp and the gearing takes care of the rest. I'm happy with the power of the 2.3L, but wish my option was the same amount of power with a naturally aspirated motor.

It is incredibly tempting for me to change my order for my 2022 Bronco back to the 7MT. I haven't had a MT in a long time but they are so much more fun to drive. Fun to drive with the exception of driving in traffic and I drive in traffic enough for it to concern me. Am I being too worried about it? I haven't owned a MT since I was a teenager, how bad is it in a traffic jam? I mean isn't it awesome that Ford really is offering a real 3-peadal MT?!?!

I drove my last daily driver an 08 for 12 years in Austin traffic It was the last 35-40 minutes of my 2 hour commute it was the last 2 miles. And it wasn’t too bad the ball of my clutch foot would get sore and I had a little bit of the numb toes but it would go away by the time I walked to my desk. And I’m willing to do it with the Bronco.

How old are ya generally speaking? I drove my Audi in all 5 borough's, in ny traffic, and still enjoy it

Also live by the shore, so I deal with Rush Hour a bit and rather deal with 10 mins of bumper to bumper if the rest of the commute is fun

I have no idea if I’m happy with it or not.
I ordered a 4-door Badlands with the 2.3/7sp, but since there’s a very good chance I won’t be able to see a Bronco, let alone test drive one before the order is locked, I’m just hoping...
