Went to a local gravel pit/ex-gold mining area with 3 other Broncos today

Wanted to get out of the house today after a busy week at work, and hooked up with a few other Bronco owners from my local group (Gold Country Broncos) to hit these gravel pits that were created by gold mining efforts many years ago. Miles of trails through mountains of river rock made for a fun day. It was raining on and off through the day, making it a little more slippery, but these Broncos handled everything with ease. Our steepest incline/decline was 27 degrees, and that was done with confidence. We had some water crossings and deep puddles along the way too. Overall, a ton of fun. The only disadvantage is that as the photographer, I don't get a lot of photos of myself driving!

So jealous!
Hope the worst of that brutal weather is finished for you. Glad that enough of it was around to play in.

I would have never thought there were so many cool places to go off-roading in close proximity to Sacramento! Great photos, @Calgecko. Looks like you fellas had a good time "wheeling for gold."
Chris here. I drive a 2-door Velocity Blue 2023 Ford Bronco Badlands with Sasquatch, Lux, a 2.7L V6, and an automatic transmission. It’s fun.

When I die there won't be a big bulletin board of photos and videos of me--I was always wielding the camera!
Thanks for sharing the images. I especially liked the sharp descent (gray 4DR MIC), sharp ascent (White 4DR MIC), and the "rocky road" (rocky row?) with the orange and the gray rigs. Would have loved to be there.

A little unrelated, I was touring far-western Utah and exploring "Gold Hill," a ghost town of sorts but is occupied when the mine is operating. Got a flat there. The mine manager helped me change and plug it. I prefer solo sojourns. A bit more risky, but then, I'm not as rational as I used to be. I should get a cover for my spare to read, "Caution! Beware of Geezer In a 2nd Adolescence!"

thanks, Chris! yeah, this was a new spot to me - I never knew about it, and it was only a 50 minute drive from my house. Will definitely be back, for sure. Our local Bronco group is planning a "Bronco Academy" out at Prairie City OHV park in April, which I'm helping with - should be a lot of fun, and should get a bunch of fun pics from that too :)

You're living the dream, Mark. I'm so glad you're putting your Bronco through its paces and getting comfortable with its capabilities, as well as its limitations. We're all enjoying some choice brochure-quality photos in the process and I for one am grateful that you're sharing your exploits. Keep having fun!

This reminds me of a old Silk Basin in Parker Ford, PA, we use to goto in the late 80's early 90's. On any given weekend there could be 5 to 50 4X4'ers having a good time, in summer months we would build a fire and sleep there. The basin walls were over 40 feet high and it bordered the Schuykill river so no one knew you were there. Oh course one day a bunch of drunk @$$holes were back there and had a head on crash that killed 2 people and that was the end of that. The property was owned by PECO Nuclear plant on other side of river and within a month they put huge concrete barriers blocking the only way is and out

Looks like another great outing! Things like this show why it was so hard for you and others to wait for your Bronco ... the adventure and hang time with pals.
