Afternoon folks,

I'm thinkin' about getting undercoating / rust protection (not from the dealership) for my new Bronco.

Any recommendations for or against this? Is it worth the cost? How much would this potentially run me?

As always, appreciate ya'll and have a great weekend!

I got mine done at the dealer not sure cost because it was a package with an extra paint protection. Where I live in northern Ontario there is lots of salt used in the winter so it a must. The one I got is almost like a rubber when it hardens so it’s not a mess if your doing anything under the vehicle

Awesome, thanks for the info! I'm leaning towards pulling the trigger. I'm not sure where I will be living over the next several years and the Bronco will be a long term vehicle. Need to keep it rust free for as long as possible!

Ugh! Your dealer? "Extra paint protection"? I don't wanna know how much they bilked you for some wax they bought at Canadian Tire.

Actually it was much because I know the price of a good under spray because I’ve been getting them done forever so I might have paid a couple hundred bucks for the wax job. It wasn’t a Ford offer it was just a dealer offer that they do.

Tried a lot of those products over the years they probably help a bit but not as good as a good under spray. Hopefully you don’t mint oil dripping all over your driveway or garage floor.

Krown is one of the products that are popular undercoating products applied here in Canada... I could use the same product, if it was as good as some of the others
My Bronco doesn't need holes drilled into the doors and rockers and quarters to apply their stuff... The exterior panels are all aluminum anyway.

Oldest dealer scam in the book...
Hope you didn't opt for the interior Scotch Guard too!

I buy scotch guard cans from the store and apply it twice a year. It has kept my seats spotless and I have 3 kids.

From what I have read regarding under coatings is that they are worse for your under body. The reason being is that they develop rock chips in them over time, this allows moisture under the coating and that it develops extensive rust without you being able to see it. You are better off regularly spraying down the underside of your vehicle with your garden hose, throughout the winter. Way less money and way more effective.

Yeah, I have no doubt the stuff helps... But the dealer would charge you hundreds to do the exact same thing!

This applies only to the black, rubberized coatings....

Is the alternative applying the asphalt based coating instead?

I have to bring mine back once a year for an inspection and touch up if needed at no additional charge. And being from Northern Ontario undercoating works and I don’t know to many people up here that has a water hose available at -20C or colder to wash under their vehicle. Also some of those do it yourself sprays eat anything rubber under your vehicle so read carefully before applying one.

Which are you using? Krown? Zeibart?

Not sure what the brand name is all I know is it is a 3 step process and the first step protects any rubber from the oil eating it. Also Scotch guard on marine grade vinyl Hmmm:unsure: now that would be a waste of money.
