Under hood Foil on Amazon. Anyone?

So,

I spied this today on Slamazon and went right by it.
At first, I thought it was for the trunk, but I quickly then I remembered that I had seen it in a pic online under the hood.

Has anyone got a model where this came from the factory or has anyone bought it and used it? I Like the way it looks and it seems like it just might quiet down the engine bay by a decibel or two?

Anyone with any information, please share. I am so close to pulling the trigger.

@Porkchop4464 My Bronco has factory installed under hood insulation - why would you need this stuff? Did they forget to include it with your build?

Pretty sure it is only included on the models with High or Lux. OEM version is about $150 with the pins.

So, from what I am gathering, if you paid for a more "Lux"ury model, (more tech and comfort than utilitarian and trail), they tried to make the vehicle quieter by stuffing it with dampeners. Mine is completely a family travel vehicle, so I am looking to make it as quiet and highway travel friendly as possible, with this, the magic engine dampening blanket does interest me. I guess the question is what the hell is the difference between the foil and the black insulation? Has anyone received one from Ford with the foil or are they all black fabric/wet- dog-fur looking things from Ford?

I believe Base, BB, and BD do not have insulation. I'm looking at adding the insulation or Dynamat.

Gotcha - thanks for the explanation. I don’t this that foil is gonna do much for sound absorption. That flimsy foil looks more like a heat shield than sound deadening.

I would suggest DynaMat or a real sound insulating material to get the result you are looking for. Good luck!

Bscurr! Hey!

Agreed, I think it is a heat thing. Since it (foil) doesn't seem to be a factory Ford option (unless someone proves me wrong) , I will not mess with it. Just such an odd thing to pop up and specifically fit the inner hood of a Bronco. The really odd thing is the ad specifically notes it is for a four door only... which makes even less sense b/c hoods aren't different from 4 to 2 door. This is why I assumed they meant trunk damper in the ad, then after some thought, made even less sense, which is why I returned and studied the product again. Sorry, I am rambling as usual.

Im no automotive engineer, so take my opinion as just that, but I don’t think you are going to get much sound dampening from that product. I would think the majority of noise you hear in the cabin is going to be through the firewall instead of the coming from the hood. If you are aiming for a quiet ride on the highways, I’d go with dynamat on the interior wherever you can put it (especially floors under your carpet since that’s typically where most road noise comes through). I would also be hesitant to but something on the hood that will reflect more heat to the engine bay. It probably wouldn’t do enough to be detrimental, but I would be worried about over heating if driving for a long time or off road. Just my 2 cents.

Agree. Funny, I spoke with my uncle yesterday who is an old-time trucker; he said that his Peterbilt has the black rug and several of his older trucks had it too. He stated that from what he always thought and heard it is for sound, but also to save the paint through years of hot engine bay both sitting and running. It keeps teh heat off the underside of the hood a little and saves the paint while also keeping it a tad quieter.

I think the Bronco is quiet. I hear folks online say it is loud, but when I think of loud I think of my 68 Chevelle with a big block or my 30 Dodge with the small block, those were loud to me; I liked it most of the time as I only drove each to mix it up; but there were times when it was a bit much; especially that damn Pete/Jackson gear drive noise (ha ha);O/

Now, yes, there is a little wind noise at 75 miles an hour, but nothing that if you bump the crappy Ford stereo up 3 decibels, you can't deal with.

Hmm the description says to use it in your front trunk???? Odd wording is always a red flag for me.
when I put an old 12V Cummins in my F250 I added some foil lined butyl roofing flashing I got from Home Depot it was cheap and made a huge difference. I added it to the firewall and under the hood.C2189AE8-35FD-4FA0-900D-7E51FCD841B5.jpegE647CCDE-3951-4722-BD4A-83CA7FF6779F.jpeg

I would think that’s for heat. I was surprised to not see it under the hood the first time I opened it. Black diamond trim did not come with anything from the factory. Should I add something like this to protect the hood from engine heat?

It’s an Amazon product. All cheaply made in China these days. Can’t even find products that don’t have typos or odd wording anymore…

I know, I actually passed it up the first time around as it said trunk and I was like, What would I need foil in the trunk for, then I started thinking (always dangerous!)!

Same question I have. The hood fenders and doors are alum, this means they transfer heat better, but I wonder if four years from now will I start seeing the old horrible clear coat pop and then the dreaded fading?
