#2: Missionary Ridge Trail (FSR 682)
There are a number of ways to get to the start of this road. I took the Animas Valley Road (250) to get to it.
This is a well- graded dirt road that runs for 25 miles or so. Some parts of it are quite washboard.
The road climbs up and up, providing great views of the Animas River valley:
Up, up, up into the clouds, and still there are thousands of feet of mountain above!
This is open range, and you need to share the road with the cows.
I met a few other vehicles on this trip, and once had to squeeze by with my wheels almost on the edge of a steep drop-off.
I took the road to where is splits at Henderson Lake. Almost surreally beautiful.
The drive took about 90 minutes, but I stopped to take a lot of photos.
Glad I wasn’t there when that rock came down.
Great drive, not even remotely technical - a sedan could do it.
My rating: Very easy.
