Think I Solved the Bronco Sound System Debackle, but I know I need help from stereo and JEEP FOLKS!

If you have read some of my posts, you know, as with many other owners, while I adore my Bronco, I absolutely despise the Sound System!
When I heard, initially that the base system had six speakers, I was like SHWWWWIIING!!! This thing will def rock with so many!
Then I got the truck and no matter how hard I tried by...

a) Changing out all six speakers

b) Stuffing sound deadener in the back pods, the dash, and the kick panels

c) Fiddling with the front-to-back master mixer in attempts to break the factory's absurd 25% to 75% speaker ratio (Back to front)!

d) Fiddling with the treble, Mid, and bass settings

I just couldn't smile enough or fake it, and it nags the hell out of me all the time, as music is so crucial to me as part of my driving and vacationing experience.
I looked online and found the plug-and-play site that has a Kicker mini amp (too expensive in the end and all on back order).
I considered giving up the below seat space to mini compact under-seat woofers (too cumbersome and in the way no matter how hard you try).
I bought the Forscan but haven't done the split equalization that Budget Bronco recommends (still need to try but haven't been able to download the software from Fordscan on my crappy laptop and teh phone is just too damn complicated for me right now).

So, I said I had the answer but need help and here it is. You can find them used on eBay for as cheap as 60 bucks (a little beat) and new for as little as 150 delivered.

I know! It is JEEP. GOD FORBID!
Jeep folks who have dealt with these "Rollbar Sound Bars" I have a few questions as I am def thinking of doing this.

A) What are the measurements? I looked all over online and no one offers them (I assume a Jeep and Bronco must be relatively close in width, correct)?

B) They look hollow for the most, so is there enough room to run the amp up there as well if you gut the light assembly and wiring and make a plate to cover all of that?

C) Do they actually kick from the factory? I ask because as I said, they are listed to fit for just about all Wrangler models from like 2008 to 2014. and they are as low as 80 bucks delivered?

Secondly, as an obvious idea to me, if you look at a Bronco tailgate, it is essentially one huge bass cab. There is no window that slides up and down and it already has the wiring and rubber crossed over from the moving gate to the back harness. Why aren’t folks stuffing amps, speakers, and subs in the actual tailgate?

Just ideas. Please chime in and tell me if I am nuts or overlooking something huge.

It is funny, through all the years of building hotrods, homes, and everything else, I never really messed with complex sound systems. I have messed with head units and two speakers in the back of an 80s junker, but nothing more than a few red, green, and black wires.

Lastly, can someone please explain/define how people are "Tapping into the 6 3/4 kick panel speakers to “boost” to the rear 4”?

Would I just trace the color codes and run loops off the kick speakers spades and splice those into the wires that run to the 4” inch pods? I ask b/c I am convinced that if I could get more volume from the factory head to those rear 4 inches, it would rock enough for me.

Is this what Budget Bronco's, Forscan equalization video explains/does?
In closing… SORRY! I know my post, as usual, is all over the place!

I’m chiming in. You are nuts. Lol.
I don’t think the Jeep and Bronco are close enough in size that you can use that without some modifications. If it were me I would build some extra speaker pods or build new larger pods for the rear. Some mdf and wrap it in fiberglass and you done

What option package are you driving with, Porkchop? I have the Badlands Lux, with the B&O system, which is superb. If you're getting distortion, perhaps you're playing it too loudly? Don't we get enough of that in-your-face sound volume from urban low-riders? Please, I hope you're not one of them!

Not sure I totally understand this post and what is being asked, but I replaced all 6 speakers with JBL mid range club series speakers and the difference was night and day. Now you are talking about 4 and 6 inch speakers, you are not going to get any decent bass from them. I have a 2 door and I just haven't seen any "great" options for a sub yet that are affordable and don't take up limited space.. I would like to see a company come out with replacement rear pods that would hold 6x9 or even a 6 to 8 inch sub then you would have decent bass.

Why wait for a company to make something. Build it yourself YouTube is filled with how to videos. Your first attempt might end up looking like a 3rd grade art project but if you stick with it you will get something you can live with. And the satisfaction of doing it yourself. Now know your limitations I wouldn’t try to relocate airbags or move the steering wheel to the back seat but this you can handle. Look into vacuum forming and/or using foam molds.

Very true about teh third-grade project.

I guess to clarify my confusing post up (which was more of an open thought), I want to buy a cheap overhead Jeep speaker set up and stuff an amp, sub, speakers, and tweeters all-in-one, which can be built on a bench to test outside the Bronco and when done will mount in the ceiling using the Bronco roll bars (plus look OEM product when finished).

If you come up with something please take lots and lots of pictures. I will check some options with a friend that builds systems for car audio (custom) to see what he thinks. I'll share if anything comes about.

My take on things is that you shouldn't put all of the things in one space. I think in order for it to sound "right" you'll need a separate space for the sub. I'd probably use a powered sub if I was space conscious. There are some nice units that might even fit under a seat.

I won't say it, but I'll paraphrase what Tommy on TFL said, having both a First Edition Bronco and base model Jeep, the base Jeep system is night and day better than the top-o-the-line Ford system.

I'd try to replicate the Jeep system by putting the sub in the back and tie-in two more speakers above. I'd replace all of the stock speakers with higher quality speakers. I've owned several (or more) Ford vehicles and none of them had great stereos. Their speakers were, shite without the e on the end.

Agreed on copying the Jeep setup. They just have been at it longer and to be honest, there are so many things that Ford copied anyway. I was behind a Jeep the other day in my Bronco and everything from the basic shape of the bumpers, the hard top, tail lights, and hell, even the tow hooks are so very similar to the Bronco's (or the other way around).

I did start by putting all new speakers all the way around and it brought out a little flavor, but when you have a system that has such little bass, no door or rear seat panel speakers and four, 4-inch speakers out of 6 speakers total, you are beginning with a hot mess, to begin with.

I still want to mess around with stuffing that big open tailgate as well. With no window in it. it just makes sense to me for a good place for an amp and a subwoofer.

You might check out the 2022 Rubicon if you can find one. All 2022 Rubicons have a 9-speaker Alpine system with 500+ amps. The two and four doors are slightly different in how they did the subs.
